I just turned the volume all the way down and when I skipped the track on the DVD/CD player. No pop sound. As soon as I turn it up just a little, and change tracks, I heard it.

Honestly, unless you want all the bells and whistles as seen in the high end bracket, most receivers in your price range will suffice for most HT setups. I mean for $500, you can definitely get 7.1, DTS, Dolby Digital,Dolby PLII, etc 100+ WPC. Now all you need to figure out what brand you want...

Ok gang, I just received my unit today and I just hooked it up tonight. All I have to say is that this unit is operating just fine. The lights are BRIGHT man!!! but I took a thin strip of duck tape over them and they tammed. Not sure how they will look during the day though, but at night time...

Keep an eye out for sales for older receivers for the year before. HK is very good in my opinion but I also really like Yamaha's and Onkyo as well. There always sales I find.
