HTPC for Digital Playback of Movies

I'm actually using a freenas server running on an antique P3-700, with a 320g hd in it, and an external usb 2tb hd. I've been running one of the older stable versions of freenas for over 3 years now with no problems. It streams to at least 5 computers simultaneously with no problems as of yet...

HTPC for Digital Playback of Movies

I've been using an Acer Aspire Revo nettop computer with Nvidia Ion Graphics built in for my htpc for nearly two years now. About the size of a portable cd player and fits behind my tv really easily, plus the external blueray drive fits neatly on shelf nearby. So far its been able to play back...

    Anyone own vintage Polk Monitors?

Be sure to get a receiver that is stable at low impedance's, those old polk's with the passive radiator have some really low impedance dips in the lower frequencies and are good for frying receivers.

should i mess with core voltage?

Haven't messed with overclocking in quite some time now since updating to modern multi-core processors, but in the old days when you overclocked you had to bump the core voltage a touch keep the processor running stable. I'd try bumping it in increments and if you still have crashes and overly...

    Famous Relatives

My last name is Hafner, and yes, that's my second cousin that plays for the Cleveland Indians, he's form Sykston, ND. I personally expected him to play pro basketball rather than baseball, but I guess he's a little too short for that, lol. And, the element Hafnium was supposedly named after a...

Seagate & Western Digital Slashing Warranties

Not impressed with seagate lately anyways, the HD that came in my laptop died after a year and wasnt covered under the computers warranty because it was a refurbished laptop. The second HD from seagate crashed after 2 months, so now I have to send it in for a replacement. Buying maxtor doesn't...

    Internet modem question

The way it sounds your network adapter was probably on its way out already, and no, you don't have to replace your motherboard. You can get one of these pci cards, should solve your problem.

    Internet modem question

I'm not familiar with the router/modem you using, if there is a setting in its configuration or not, but you can try forcing it in windows. Open up the properties for your network card in the device manager, under the advanced tab, select "speed & duplex" and set it to 100mbs full duplex. May...

    Internet modem question

Open up your network connection properties and make sure your ethernet is connecting at 100mbs instead of 10mbs, that could explain the speed topping out at 9.5mbs. It would most likely be a setting in the dsl modem configuration set to autosense the ethernet speed, manually set it to 100.

Anyone knows who manufactures these loudspeakers and what model they are?

Somebody's homebuilt speakers, looks like a Vifa tweeter and Dayton midrange. I have no idea about the woofer.

    Inconsistent volume

If the amp has dials labeled boost and or boost frequency, or a selector switch for 40hz boost, turn them down or turn them off. You may also have a loudness setting activated on your head unit or have equalization set up before you added the sub, try lowering the very low eq adjustments in...

    Netflix went down?

South Central ND actually. We didn't get hit as hard as the Bismarck area, but we had a main line pole go down because of ground thawing right before the storm and they didn't get it fixed properly so of course the wind took it down again. Then finally the power comes back on and I wanted to...

    ar tws 510 speakers?

I would check out NewFoam, gave them the measurements on my old realistic Minimus-77's, and they turned out great, sound as good as new. Replacing the foam is actually easier than it sounds, just takes a little patience.

    MediaMonkey or dBpoweramp for ripping?

CDex is another option, has all major codecs including flac, and can be configured to rip to .wav file and then convert to another format while leaving the wav file after conversion, just turn of the encode on the fly feature.
