And also the four terminals on the speakers can be bi-amped as well if your receiver allows so. Just to make sure to remove the jumper before doing bi-amp.

Phase Tech PC3.1 are designed for this application. Anyhow, the speakers need to be designed for such use. You can not just stand up a center channel and call it front.

I do not own Elite, so I can not comment on SQ. But based on the spec, the 7 series seem to have less weight than the older 5 series.

I am using the HK3480. Sound is very good for the money. With your budget, you can step up to used Rotel or Arcam receiver, which are known for musicality.

I believe the OP was talking about clarity of SQ, not power. More power does not equal to better sound.

I also agree that you should try to see if sound gets better when you use digital out from your CDP. If you see improvement over the analog out, that might mean the DAC in your receiver is better than that in your CDP.

I believe it will succeed, but only one, the cheaper one. I am for one will sit on the fence for a while until the price of the players comes down, and there are plenty of source selection, the way I did when DVD first came out.

I do own the HK 3480 myself. I use it to drive my Phase Tech PC3.1II for bedroon music listening. It sounds pretty good for the money (as well got it refurbished from Ebay). I A/B the receiver with my BA AVR7120 with stereo input, the sound is below the BA, but very close and respectible.

I own the Boston AVR7120 receiver (AVP7+amp). Sound quality is very superb, but there are some problems here and there and no FW upgrades, and setting up is a challenge to many people. You can check out threads in avsforum.

If you have not pulled the trigger yet, you should look for somewhere else. The amp is no longer available at OneCall.

I haven't seen any post regarding Ascend's weekness as well. I do not own one, but if you ask me, I've got to say it's the vinyl finish :p

If you are willing to spend at the top end of your budget, you can get Pio 1014 with respectable sound and features, including auto calib. You should be able to get it at around $300 shipped either from Ebay or Amazon.

If you are interested in the older AS-F1, there are plenty on Ebay right now with starting bid of $125/pair, and I saw it ended at about the same price. Awsome deal.
