Picking 6-10 would be much tougher, as there are many that are worthy. To name a few - Boston, Black Sabbath, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden/Audioslave, Korn, Radiohead, Dire Straits, Pink Floyd, The Who, The Stones, Allman Brothers, SRV, The Doors, ELP, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Queen, Live, Genesis, Dave Matthews Band, ACDC, Santana, etc. etc. etc.

1 Deftones - I like how there is so much to listen to. I notice that it takes time to warm up to this type of a band. Whereas when I like a band right off the bat I usauly end up disliking them in two months. I credit this to getting attracted to the beat or rythm but if it is simple then it gets old. When they take advantage of four, five or six different frequency levels with different beats and rythms that in the end all bleed together so well....It's so much more to listen to. I hear something new every time. I'd have to say White Pony takes the cake and I've been listening to it for years.

2 Audioslave - So often you have to ignore the lead singer or the band is ruined for you. Not the case here. I think of these guys as the einsteins of the modern day rock. Extremely infectious and always something original in every song.

3 Damien Marley - Some of his songs get old but he brings a whole new style to the table and he's pioneering in this catagory of music. Just fun party music for me. You might not enjoy his stuff if you are a little older because it's a blend of reggae, hip hop and rap. Some club songs to be found on both of his albums. Music can completely change your mood or release stress or a million things. Most of his stuff is an inviting mood for me.

4 Seether - I can't explain why I like Seether so much. I just do. I just got there acoustic album the other day and I'm completely impressed. I went on vacation the other day and caught up with my mother. We were driving down the road and usauly she doesn't listen to any music but I happened to put in this album and she became interested. I think I've gotten her to bite on some other acoustic stuff from the Foo Fighters as well. She called me up to ask the names of the albums. *pinches self*

5 Everything else in the world - For me nothing else realy stacks up to these four bands. I will be listening to these bands when I'm 40. I could list probably another 20 bands that I listen to regularly but none come close to these four. I feel like I owe the Red Hot Chili Peppers a mention for there awesome sound and original influence.

P.S.: I also took "groups" literally. If solo artists are included, Peter Gabriel would be wedged in there somewhere, and Miles Davis, too (no specific group of his quite cracks the top five, but his entire career would put him up there). Don't ask me who'd get the boot.

Mostly, I just cherry-pick the best songs from a particular group depending on mood, from Stevie Wonder to AC/DC, Charlie Parker to Mozart. I tend not to favor everything from a particular band. For instance, most music from Rush that isn't generally well known (commercially) is just plain weird, to me.
