Klein makes the same one you pictured from ideal. I use Klein primarily for all my electrical work. Klein makes on of the spring loaded strippers like you pictured but @ 179 and 16 gauge to 24, Im not that needy

Yeah.. me either. I'm not afraid to admit I've stripped insulation off of wire using my teeth before...

Hey one other 'outside the box' albeit kind of a pain in the arse alternative is this:

Thermal wire stripper. Not sure if you've ever used them before, Shock but they will NOT cut through your wires - they basically use heat to melt a "cut" into the insulation at which point you can pull it off with your bare hands. Since there is no sharp blade, the wires stay intact. They offer these as attachments on the more complicated soldering stations I've used in professional settings, but can also be acquired as a standalone item as the one pictured.

So is Gardner-Bender and most are exactly the same, with different colors and names. Regardless of brand, it's sometimes a personal preference. I have a long Klein crimper and almost never use it because when I need to work fast, especially when I was doing car audio, fumbling around for more tools wastes a lot of time. When I can cut, strip and crimp with one tool, it's much more efficient and I'd have to think that I've made hundreds of thousands of connections- once I got what I liked, I never found anything better, for me.

I recently got one of these Klein cuties:

... way better than my buddy's Green Lee version. I'm able to pin point which prong is hot and which is neutral while his just dials 911 as soon as you get it close to electricity.

The correct gauge on the stripper ALWAYS cuts through a bunch of strands....100% of the time.

It sounds like you just need to be shown the proper technique and with a little practice you'll be ok.

Don't forget there are strippers for only solid wire, and strippers for stranded.

One thing to try is to cut the center of the zip cord first,(with the cutter part of the stripper, or a knife) then strip the wire but don't squeeze down all the way.
So, you are cutting through the insulation 90% i.e.. Then re-grip it with the stripper and slide it off.

I get strands whenever I strip my wire usually But it's not a big deal. The cross sectional area of the wire is still intact.

Back in the day (before I knew better) I used to just burn the insulation with a lighter and pull it off before it had a chance to cool and harden.
Burnt a few fingers in the proccess.

Why offer white and red only?

High frequencies ride on the cable surface and the chemicals used to create the different colors effect the signal. For example, carbon is used to create black. Listen to a black or gray wire versus a white or red wire and you will hear the difference. We exclusively use red and white only in all upgrades.

Hmmm... pardon my jumping on this one, as I don't know you and certainly don't have a problem with you, but I fail to see how either of these posts have a single thing to do with the OP's original rant, or his issue with stripping wire. Perhaps this is one of the reasons for the red chicklets? Just speculating...

It was a joke. Jokes are allowed in this forum. Off-topic random posts in threads just tends to get on peoples nerves. I'd hazard a guess that this isn't the only thread in this forum where you've gotten cross-ways with other members, although I haven't seen them myself - all I could do was make one comment on the post I saw, so don't take it as I'm slamming you for all your red chicklets. That's between you and whoever gave them to you. You asked wtf with all the negative marks, and I offered advice based on what I saw. Period.
