1. During YPAO, my new Yammy RX-V2500 has identified that one or more of my speakers are out of phase - unfortunately, it does not identify which one. I am certain it is one or both of my in-walls (sadly, the speaker wires were not marked/differentiated during installation). Again, the problem is that the receiver does not tell me which speaker(s). Any tips 4me (other than trial and error)?

2. Anybody else have this receiver and/or would be willing to share an email where I may consult on any future questions? I am a noob at this and would greatly appreciate additional guidance!

Check the phase yourself. Get an AA or AAA battery and touch the speaker wire's two connectors to the + and - terminals of the battery. If the speaker cone goes out, you have correctly touched the + speaker cable to the + battery terminal. Mark the wire. If the cone goes in, you have connected the - speaker cable to the + battery terminal.

This was an old car audio installer's trick that I learned a long time ago.

Thanx

Thank you, Electone...

I'll try this. I am disappointed though that the yammy does not identify which speakers are out of phase for you? Also, considering you have the 2400, any other tips, tricks, or preferences you have on yours? Favorite CD listening mode? favorite movie listening mode? Pure direct is supposed to sound good with CDs, but it apparently eliminates the sub and just plays from front L and R? Wouldn't one want to utilize the sub for music (bass)?

Thanx again!

Self confidence

If you're sure you wired your speakers correctly, you probably did. :)

If you look at the small print in your manual (page 31), under certain conditions YPAO erroneously tells you that your speakers are wired out of phase when in fact they're not. I also get that message and know for a fact that my wiring is fine.

Like I said, if you're sure you wired your speakers correctly, you probably did. :)

yeah

Good point. The only ones I am not sure about are my 2 in-wall surrounds. As said, those speaker wires are not marked. All others I know are correct. As such, those are the 2 speakers I need to verify. Any other ideas?

Sure. Play the test tones on a disc like Avia and listen to how the speakers in question sound. You can normally tell quite easily if a speaker is out of phase because it sounds much more 'airier'; like it's almost from behind you (when actually it's in front) is the best way I can describe it.

If you don't have the Avia disc or equivalent, just disconnect or somehow mute all the other speakers and play anything through those (one at a time) you're trying to determine the phase of.

Just read this. I don't have your actual receiver, but if you PM me I'll help if I can, though I'm sure just putting any questions you have 'out there' like you've done with this one will increase your chances of finding a solution.

Thanx.

In the end, it's only 2 speakers and should be easy enough to remedy. The battery thing sounds simple enough. Will the front of speaker cone actually move (stick out or pull in) when I do this?

Pass. I've never tried it myself I'm afraid.

Buck's got this one right. My 2500 still swears that my left front is out-of-phase ! Unless the guys at Axiom played tricks with the lettering on the wires, it's wired up right. :D

It will move depending on battery polarity you attach to the wires. I would attach the + terminal, mark that wire with a tape and see which way the cone moves and mark it down. Now do the other speaker. If it moves in the same way, your wire guesses are correct.
Then, check one of the speakers you know is correct, and attach the + terminal of the batter to the + terminal of the speaker, note movement direction. If the same as the rears, you know the guessed wires are + and hook them up accordingly.

Yep

I tried the AA battery test and it worked perfectly.

Thanx!

Last comments: In my limited experimenting I seem to like the following settings best:

For Music: 7 channel stereo
For Movies: Cinema DSP General, Adventure, and Sci-Fi

I haven't experimented with the others much (i.e. THX, PrologicXII, etc.)

*"Pure Direct" works with music over the tuner, but does not seem to work when I play a CD? Why?

*Anybody else have some other settings they prefer more on this receiver for music, movies, games?

*I have an xbox 360, anybody else have a sound setting preference for playing games on it?

Grats,

No need to be afraid. There's no way that the current that comes out of a 1.5 volt battery is going to hurt the speaker.

We used to solder two short speaker wires onto batteries and then just touched the wires that were soldered on the battery to the speaker's wires.

After looking at your manual, I'm not sure why you can't get Pure Direct from your CD player. According to the manual, Pure Direct is available from both analogue and digital sources.
