I just purchased this receiver and cant get the GUI to display on my tv. I have component cables connected if that means anything. The manual tells me to push the "TOP" (Title") button and that I should see a display, but there is nothing. Can anyone throw me a bone here? Thanks in advance!

Are you on a DVD source, or other HD source compoent when you're trying? If so, try going to a different source (like a CD or something else) and try that.

Yeah, I tried that, and same results. It's killing me! Thanks, though.

Okay, lets get the obvious stuff aside first. Do you have the component cables hooked up correctly (right color to the right color)? Are they correctly connected to the TV and to the receiver? How about the remote, on the right side, make sure that the slide is on Amp (not Source or TV). On my TV when I hit the Top button I see some screen flicker before it brings up the GUI menu. Do you see any screen flicker at all?

After that, we will diagnose from there.

Components are hooked up correctly. Remote is set to AMP. When I push TOP, nothing happens onscreen or on the receiver. No flickering either. I've tried pushing TOP on every source and it still doesnt do anything. Thanks again, fellas.

Does the remote work anything else on the amp? I was thinking maybe the remote isn't working or the batteries are in backwards.

Have you tried watching something thru the receiver? I mean, hook up the DVD (or HD tuner) to the receiver, then run the component cable from the receiver to your TV. If you can watch something thru the receiver and it doesn't work then I would begin to question the 2500.

try that.

Here's what I got hooked up to the receiver:

Cable box w/ component
Xbox w/ component
PS2 w/ analog

Monitor OUT has components going to the component inputs behind the tv. I have been watching tv/ playing both xbox and ps2 through the receiver and using the remote. I just cant find out why nothing will happen when I push TOP. What a PITA.

Okay, so you are able to switch between xbox/ps2/cable by using the remote so that means you are using the switching of the 2500.

Have you tried to power cycling everything? Have you run YPAO?

the GUI will not show up on component inputs. You need to run a seperate composite cable (the simple yellow RCA type) to get the GUI to display.

This is a common problem with many receivers.

only after you run the set-up the first time and turn the video conversion on. the default for the converter is, unfortunately, off. :(

Okay, so I guess Piench needs to run Set-Up. Let us know if that solves your problem. I only run component video and I guess that I got lucky and ran set up before I did anything else.

Not true, or rather, not the case with my 2500, which was brand new and unopened out of the box. Plugged DVD into amp, amp via component to projector and GUI came up (even before setup).

To MarkH

Do you have connect DVD with progressive scan?

Because in my RX-V2500 the Gui is ok in standard mode but in progressive mode i don't see it.

Mine showed immediately without doing that .... it just wouldn't show when the source was sending a HD progressive source.

Even my DVD player worked to get the the complete GUI screen, I just didn't see the onscreen volume, etc. (nor do I on x-box which I have the HD pack). However the main menu always showed without ever hooking up s-video or a composite cable.

At 480i/480p only. If the component inputs on the TV are configured for 720/780/1080 then it will NOT show. I have this same problem with my Samsung DLP.

OK, first off I want to thank all of you for helping out. You guys are awesome. Secondly, I tried everything you suggested and I still dont get a GUI on my screen. I took out the components and tried a regular video cable with no luck, then an s-video cable w/ no luck. I tried running the AUTO SETUP (installing the mic) and I keep getting WARNING 1. I also have tried to do MANUAL SETUP, but it seems that I cant choose an option (turning things ON or OFF). Is there a particular button I need to be pressing in order to switch something on or off? Ahhh, technology......

Not sure if this was mentioned yet but......

On my older TV (32 inch Hitachi) I have to have the TV's input set to "Video 1" or something like that for the GUI to appear. There is one input on the TV where I get the picture but no GUI.

Anyway, just thought I would throw that out there.

play your xbox or PS2 and while you are playing switch the conroller to AMP and hit the TOP button.

Then, pat your head while rubbing your stomach in a clockwise circular motion and hop on your LEFT leg. That should do it. If not you need to call Yamaha

How are you getting to auto-setup? Through the front display?
