Yamaha RX-V765 Remappable inputs

I just got the new RX-V765 and I'm using it with the following devices:

-TV (optical)
-PS3 (HDMI)
-Xbox 360 (Component + Optical)
-PS2 (Component + Analog)

I have the TV connected to AV4 with just the optical cable.
I have the PS3 connected to HDMI1.
I have the Xbox 360 connected to AV1. It is the release model with no HDMI.

My issue is with the PS2. The only other component input on the receiver is AV2 with coaxial audio, which the PS2 does not have. Is there a way to connect the analog audio jacks from my PS2 for use with the component input of AV2? I could connect it to AUDIO1, but I cannot use AV2 and AUDIO1 at the same time.

Right now I'm just connecting the PS2 directly to the TV.

You almost got it, it always starts with: http:// (not: hxxp).
You will eventually get it, just transcript exactly (with the capitals) the top line on your display.

* Now, your Xbox 360 goes to AV1 (Components & Optical).
* Your PS2 goes to AV2 (Components & Audio2, Left & Right analog jacks).
* Your PS3 goes to HDMI3. (No more connection needed here.)
* And your TV goes to AV5 (Audio Left & Right analog jacks).

No, he did get the two bars (//). What was wrong was "hxxp", it should have been "http". See...

How's my solution to his connection issue?

And see how easy it is to remember too:

PS2 = AV2 (Easy 2 for 2).
PS3 = HDMI3 (Easy 3 for 3).
Xbox 360 = AV1 (Easy X for 1).
TV = AV5 (Audio Analog) or AV4 (Optical Digital) --> [Easy V for fiVe or four].

Hard to say because I haven't found the manual. I don't know if the OP can actually use the AV2 video and AUDIO2 audio at the same time. I would suspect not, but do you know for sure that the 765 can do that? If so, then that's a great solution for the PS2 because the fundamental issue for the 765 (and other new Yamahas) is how to use component video along with analog audio. Other than the dilemma of connecting the PS2 directly to the receiver, I think that the OP's original connections look good.

This issue is a big reason that I recommended to my friend not to get a newer Yamaha. Unassignable inputs is a big step down from last year's models, IMO.

Well, of course he can use the Video Components of AV2 with Audio2 for the analog sound. If not, that will not make any sense at all!
That's how they related to each other (the Yamaha way), so his PS2 is secure now.

No assignable Inputs! This is outrageous! What the heck is happening with Yamaha???

I'd better go and look for an old vintage Fisher receiver from the 60's!

That's what I thought. Sorry. The new Yamahas just don't have the flexibility of last year's models.

I would have been really surprised if those two inputs could be used together.

I have the 665 model and it has the same exact issue. That is really the only downside that I have about the receiver.

I have a Wii with the component cable, so I just kept that hooked to my TV and the Optical Cable caries the audio from my TV to my receiver.

Everything else I love about the receiver so far. Especially the fact that it has the newer HDMI standard 1.3b that allows for control over the HDMI cable. Whenver I turn on my TV it automatically turns on my AVR and changes the input to TV (AV4 just renamed). When I turn on my Blu-Ray my TV automatically switches to the HDMI input and my AVR automatically switches to Blu-Ray (HDMI1 renamed). I can even control the volume level through the TV, so I have very minimal use of the AVR remote.

Yamaha has released a firmware update that addresses this issue. It looks like the update is for all of the *65 models.

On Yamaha.com, go to the information page for your receiver. (I can't post a direct link since I'm a new user.)

At the bottom of the page, click the "Downloads" tab. There are links to download the firmware update and to download an addendum to the user's manual.

Thanks. I just tried this and it was exactly what I needed!

I burned the track on a CD-R using Nero (16x, Track-at-Once, Finalize).

First, I tried it with my Xbox 360. I got "Model Type Err" after a few seconds.

Next, I tried it with my PS3. The message on the screen stayed at "Header Found" for several minutes before I stopped it.

Finally, I tried it using the PS2. It worked immediately. The whole process took less than 5 minutes.

And most importantly, it works!

Well, you are in fact selecting the Audio input for the proper type of Audio connection (Analog, Digital Coaxial or Optical) after all, which is assigned to an Audio or Video source. Makes sense to me, but I do understand what you are saying.
