4600 - Mixed OHM Speakers

Hello All,

I have been reading the posts and something is unclear to me. The 4600 will drive a 4 ohm load so that is good for me. However, is it kosher to place different ohm rated speakers in the same setup? The system I am looking at uses two 4 ohm towers up front with two 6 ohm surrounds and a 6 ohm center. Is there any issue running a 4600 in this configuration?

Thanks,
Wiley

Hi:
I'm running low impedance speakers with the new Yammie (4 ohms) and it is not happy, It runs really, really warm. You can turn down the power ratings and/or turn the fan to continuous run but, it still needs lots of cooling room (not in a stack). Good Luck......

That is what Iw as afraid of.... I am thinking I will scale back to the 2500 and use an Outlaw 770 to power my system. Lot's of people talking about that so it must be a good solution.

Thanks,
Wiley

Actually that receiver runs warm normally. But in large rooms with moderate efficient, low impedance speakers, a separate amp, at least for the front 3 channels is probably a good way to go.

We recommend the Yammie RX-V1600/2600 and Emotiva MPS-1 7CH amp. This is a killer combo!

Yamaha 4600 vs. Pioneer VSX-74TXvi

Which would be a better choice -- the Yamaha 4600 vs. Pioneer VSX-74TXvi?

I read where the gold Nichons in the pre-amp were of higher quality in Gene's first look compared to the RX-V2500.
I currently have the RX-V2200 (4 years old now) and it has the gold Nichons used in its pre-amp section also. Of course its older, so its processor has less features.
But, I wonder if I would gain any true better audio from either the RX-V2500 or the RX-V4600 recievers, probably?
Here's a pic of the RX-V2200 CAPs.

im actually in the same dillema as you
i've narrowed down to the Pio VSX-74TXVi becos both my plasma and DVD player are Pioneers but i've auditioned it at the showroom but found the sound abit on the aggressive and bright on the treble side. Home Cinema Choice's review only confirmed my suspicions. but it was mentioned that this could be somehow rectified by the EQ caliberation altho the review did mentioned that "there's no escaping that the overall balance is on the aggressive and edgy side". the Yamaha RX-V4600 seems to be a viable alternative since it has all the features i want - HDMI and most importantly, i-Link connections.

any advice on whether to go for "total synergy" (same brand components) or stick with the Yamaha RX-V4600 for its HT/music prowess would be much appreciated. my priority is about 80% for HT and 20% music. all i want is awe-inspiring HT surround sound and at least decent music performance with normal CD sources and "respectable" performance with audiophile/SACD/DVD-A sources. thanks.
