Yamaha rx-v3800

Does any body knows anything about the Yamaha RX-V3800?
I have been looking for a new receiver, i just returned the Elite vsx-92txh because it has some compatibility problems when passing video trought hdmi to my hdtv, i called pioneer and they said that there is nothing i could do about it, so now i am on the market for a new receiver again, i just saw an avr-2808ci for $749 and a Yamaha rx-v3800 for $899, both of them on sale because they are the last ones, the yamaha called my attention, i have never listened to a yamaha reciever before, i know is compared to the 3808 from denon but :
Is yamaha comparable to denon quality?
Does any body that owns this model can tell me anything about it, i will really apreciate any coment that you can give me about the yamaha

You'll get different opinions here, some people like Yamaha, other Denon, but one thing is for certain you won't wrong with either one. I have the Denon 3808CI and I love it!!! One of the things I like is its flexibility, and that you can download a lot of firmwares updates for free (or upgrades, paid ones), so you're never let behind when as technology goes ahead. All my gear is Denon,and among them is the 2803CI DVD/CD player, which I use to play my SACD and DVD-A, using Denon's proprietary Denon Link3, which allows me to free up some inputs for any multichannel component I could buy in the future. There's a lot of helpful information here and , so do little search before you make the purchase. Happy reading!!!!

My only experience has been reading the threads on this by ParadigmDawg. He bought a 3800 and returned it for a 3808. The issues that I recall were the volume display (he and his wife felt that it was too small), the 12v triggers, and the lack of an onscreen display over HDMI. I certainly might be remembering those wrong. The main threads that I remember where this was discussed (there were posts everywhere for about a week ) are:

1. Rx-v3800 ?
2. Part 2- 3800 Volume display
3. 3800-the search continues

What about the price, is it worth it?

Ok, maybe the volume display is to small and dificult to read, but what about the sound reproduction, conectivity, features that it offers?, is it posible to do firmware updates trought it's ethernet port or is just for internet radio?
What about the price? the msrp was $1600 and is on sale for only $899, that is denons 2308 price territory and the yamaha compares to the 3808 in features, will the price make up for the few minor lacks and make it a great bang for the buck?

I would think yes. I saw one for $778 new from an authorized dealer, and I foolishly waited until the next day to buy it but it went back to regular MSRP, so I missed out. I think in that price range, under $900, it's hard to go wrong with it. Of course, I have no personal experience with the receiver other than in store, so it's just an opinion.

Yes, you can download updates using the ethernet port. It has a lot of different features just like the Yamaha, so it all comes down to what your preferences are. Soundwise no complaints at all but that's just my opinion. Again is just a matter of preferences, both brands offer a wide array of options and features so you won't wrong with either.

They (3808 and 3800) are both good AVRs. The Denon has features that are right for me and the Yamaha does not. Both have a good amp section and I dont know what you are looking for in the way of video abilities.

Well on the video side i want it to be capable of passing and unpconverting analog signals to hdmi with out signal degradation like the one i get with my current receiver, plus a want a reciver caplable of pasing sacd signal trought hdmi as well as being able to get the updates from the internet, i would love go for the denon 3808 but it is out of my budget, so is the yamaha on its regular price but for the $899 that i can get it for i think will be worth it

The 3800 will pass through untouched and it is a very good price. As long as you don't care that the 12v. triggers can't be assigned and you dont care that it can't overlay 1080p via HDMI and the small volume display doesn't bother you, then I would go for it.

I just bought went for the avr-2808ci $749, after i had a long chat with a profesional home theater installer, he said that both were good receivers on the audio side, but on the video area the denon was way way better than the yamaha, because the yamahas have a problem whit white levels whenpasing video trought hdmi, and upconverting analog signals, so i will let you know in a few days how it works, thank you every one for your help

I have read that the Yamaha clips the whiter than white and blacker than black but I doubt that you would notice it.

I would have picked the Denon too, I hope you like it as much as I like the 3808.

If you have never owned a Denon let me give you a tip on the user manual. When you open the box, slowly remove the manual, very carefully pull it all the way out, hold it with one hand, walk to the trash and then throw it in!

yes, this 2808 is my second denon receiver, i am replacing my 2307 with it, i know what you are talking about the manual, it is absolutly rubbish, i will have to find my way trought the menus with out it, if you know any helpfull tricks please do not hesitate in giving me them. i will really apreciate it

Thanks , what was the issue with the display and the 92 having? As for the fit, if the receiver has all the features you need, you have plenty of power
