I have a yamaha rx-v2500 but prior to this i owned the rx-v1500. Using the 1500 when i played certain DVD's with the THX sound field it would automaticlly display THX SURR. EX. It is may understanding that the EX indicates that sound is being sent to the two back channels (along w/the other 5 speakers and sub). With the 2500 when i play the same DVDs i cannot get the "EX." It only displays the THX Cinema. Am i missing something here? Also, is there a way to determine what sound field will sound best with certain dvds (perhaps based on the materials on the back of the dvd case)? Thanks for any help. Glenn

When setting up your 2500 did you turn on the Surround Back speakers? With my receiver it only says THX-EX if I have enabled those speakers. As far as the Surround Mode to use, it is really a matter of personal preference. Try them all until you find one that works for you.

I had the 1500 for 3 weeks and decided to try the 2500 (after returning the 1500). The 2500 has additional watts, although only 10. It also has a much nicer GUI and the ability to do a bi-wired connection for my front speakers. Also, those that i spoke with indicated that the 2500 has different internal components that make a differance. I am happy with my choice. The sound is much improved. Well worth the few extra dollars.
