Does anyone have experience with limiting the dynamic range while watching a DVD. My wife and daughters do not like the loud bass :( unlike me who loves to hear and feel the dynamics. I noticed there are two possible ways of doing this. The 1st is using adpaptive Dynamic Range Control which limits the SPL based on the volume setting. The louder the setting the less the compression, the quiter the setting the more compression is used. The other option is to set dynamic compression manually through the menu from the manual-->sound-->dynamic range menu. Its has setting from none, medium and full compression. Has anyone compared these two setting? If so, which one do you prefer?

Don't you have a "Night Cinema" mode? I do have it on my RX-V1600...

How about you try the new functions and see what it does and how you like it?
No. I believe they replaced that function with what I've mentioned earlier. :)

Well I had some alone time tonight and tried the adaptive using the depth charge scene in U571. Well at first I thought it wasn't working until I turned the adaptive Dynamic COntrol off and was hit full force afterwards. I just about landed on the ceiling. This adaptive Dynamic Range Control works really well. I'll have to find some more alone time and try the old fashion compression settings.
