I have a possible fault with my Yamaha RX-V1200. when switching on it defaults to Sci-Fi and some times no speakers are working, when I switch it to tuner all my pre set stations are lost and I have to re tune all my stations and switch my speakers on. when this is done it is working ok for as long it is switched on. when I switch it off and back on straight away it still holds the stations in the memory. Any idea whats causing this? Will it will be expensive to repair? Is it time to get another receiver

It may have a battery backup system that uses a small watch style battery. Replacing it may fix the problem (very inexpensive and relatively easy to do if you feel comfortable looking under the hood of your receiver).

However, does the receiver maintain surround settings you make (distances, levels)? If it does you may be right and there is a fault. Leaving the receiver unplugged for several days may reset the processor and correct the fault.:)

Call Yamaha tech support. Perhaps they know if memory depends on a battery or you have problems with the ram memory cards perhaps. Some receivers are disconnected for weeks/months on end and nothing is lost.

result of action taken from replys

thanks for your replys. I contacted Yamaha Tech service centre, they could not help me, I phoned a service centre and they were not helpful. I have since switched the receiver on and left it on for a few hours on a night. I have done this over a few days, now I switch it on and it retains the Radio settings. This seems to recharge the internal battery (if there is one) So I hope I have cured it.

Thanks for the follow up post. Not encouraging that Yamaha had no answers:eek:

Perhaps if it is a rechargeable battery, it may be at its useful life since it is not retaining memory for long, it seems.

Yamaha RX-V1200 faults

Today (Saturday) I have switched the receiver on again to find it had once more lost all settings from the memory. It looks like I will have to take it to a service centre from them to test it. When I contacted them they could not tell me if there was a battery in fact they told to look in the instruction to see if it mentioned a battery for the memory or it could be a battery capiciter
