I'm using Yamaha Pro speakers and would like to share my thoughts because I've found very little written on them outside dj forums.
I needed a speaker to use in the garage for an electric drumset, keyboard, guitar, so was on the lookout for a good speaker. Then one day, at the music shop, there it was, the Yamaha DZR315 on sale for $1350. I hooked it up to a Chromecast audio and was blown away by the seemingly perfect mono sound. I bought another and the accompanying DXS18XLF 18" sub. You tell the sub you have a DZR315 and it automatically sets the crossover and delay. The 315s are 3-way, 2000W, 3" voiceco, 8"mid, and 15" driver. They use fir crossovers and are digital, with delay settings and parametric eq. They sound really good with just the Chromecast audio, no receiver.
Then I purchased a pioneer elite vsx‐lx505 for $800, which has dirac live and pre-outs for 9 channels. This probably sounds even better but haven't switched back to the Chromecast to compare. Next i purchased a DZR10 for the center channel, which has the same 2000W amplifier and 3" voicecoil but with a 10" driver and only 2-way. I talked to sweetwater and sent them a check so a got $280 off msrp. (Pro tip)
My thoughts were professional audio has to sound good because $ is on the line and everything Yamaha makes is good, plus balanced signal. The 315s go up to 147db, which is crazy.
I think this has to be the best bang for the buck. It sounds really really good.
