Refurbished for $700 or Brand new for $880 ($180 more)? Hmm??
Yeah, I guess the extended warranty is good.

But is the warranty from Onkyo, which means you can take to any Onkyo Dealer (Circuit City, etc.) or is it a store warranty, which means you have to pay $$ for shipping both ways?

The refurb comes with a one year warranty from Onkyo. A4LESS has 3 and 5 year service plans available.

H/K has no onboard decoding for Dolby Digital Plus, TrueHD, and DTS-HD
Onkyo has onboard decoding for Dolby Digital Plus, TrueHD, and DTS-HD

H/K has no THX cert/post processing; Onkyo has THX Ultra II cert/post processing

H/K rated 75 watts per channel; Onkyo rated 130 watts per channel.

H/K transcodes inputs to component (HDMI exempt); Onkyo transcodes all the way to HDMI.

H/K has A-Bus and a USB port (for streaming music); Onkyo does not have this feature.

H/K is two zone (second zone requires a seperate amplifier; Onkyo is three zone and has onboard amplification for zone two (also has preouts for zone 2 and zone 3)

Hands down the Onkyo has them beat, unless you really need the USB or A-Bus.

Would like to add:
Although 645 rated power is 75W vs the 805's 130W, the 805 will not get you 130WX7 but will still get you most likely >75WX7, may be something like 100 to 115X7 but I am guessing. The next model up 875 (same weight) did 7X128 at clipping.

I just wanted it to be clear that for most people it has all features you would need short of network ability for most home theaters for a extraordinary price.

I have often wondered that myself. People complain about the heat, but I haven't heard much about reliability or anything regarding the Onkyo TX-SR805. I haven't heard about shut-down issues either.

Hi Everybody,

This is my first post. I am interested in a sub $500 reciever. Amazon has the Harmon Kardon available for only $428. At this price level is the Onkyo still a better value?
