Any word if the Yamaha 4600 will get an HDMI conversion update so that it can do the same thing as the 2600 and that is to convert all the signals to HDMI?

I returned my 4600 to Sound Advice after test driving the past month. The salesman mentioned that Yamaha was considering taking them off shelves when the 2600 is released.
He didn't say why but it would make sense. On display, side by side, I can't see many people opting for the 4600.

I returned the DVDS2500 also. Couldn't read most dvdr stuff I have. Little scratches, that are no problem for my kids $60 walmart player, cause the 2500 to read for about 40 seconds before "stop" appeared on the display.
I need better performance for $700. It certainly needs to perform better than the $60 player.
Picture was pretty tho.

So I paid for a rx-v2600. He said they'd call when they came in.
I hope this one works out better

Having tested the 4600, is it sufficient to drive a set of speakers like the Axiom Epic 80 / EP500 combo? COnfiguration will be 5.1 +2 Presence. Eventually I would want to get outboard amps but I am looking for something to start this system that will be good as a Pre/Pro later.

Mine is doing just fine, but my room is only 11x17 . but open to another that's larger. No clipping issues as of yet, but I do keep the fan on all the time, not that I need to, but I just do.

The EP500 has no bearing on the receivers amps as it has it's own.

Mine is 5.1 with no presence channels.

J&R and One Call has the new HTR 5990 on pre order status. $999 retail. 37lbs lbs. Big daddy. Almost a mirror image of the RX-V 1600.
At 20 Hz to 20,000Hz it delivers 120 Watts per channel and, rated at 1,000Hz, it delivers 140 watts per channel to 7 channels.

I can almost guarantee the 1600 and 2600 with both weigh 34lbs each.

The 4600 weighs just a tad more than the Denon 3805 - 39lbs vs 37.5lbs. I think that's one reason the Denon does such a great job with multiple channel output (ie 7 channel stereo) versus the Yamahas. More beef.

The Denon 4806 comes in at 52.5 lbs (only Yamaha's RX-Z series surpass that one).

Good question. I guess my answer is that they wouldn't want to one up their 4600. They only have 5lbs to work with.

Update! Yamaha just posted the manual on the HTR 5990, and it weighs 37lbs. If this is true, then the 1600 and 2600 should come in at 38.1lbs . (The 1500/2500 weigh 34.2lbs; the 5890 33.1lbs).

How can they encroach on the 4600? Maybe they need to throw some bricks in the 4700 next year for us knucklehead weightwatchers.

I have been reading this site for a while and bought a RXV2500 just 3 weeks ago.

I looked at the link the admin posted for the foreign Yamaha site.
There are a few major things to note.

1. If you don't have a TV with HDMI this reciever will do little to nothing for you over the 2500.

2. Price point I just called ABT where I got my 2500 for $620, the lowest price they could offer for the 2600 was $950.

3. According to Yamahas site the sound processing is almost identical, and the 2500 still has a few extra features:

DSP-Programs 2600 17 2500 17
Surround Programs 260022 2500 34

4. If you have a DVD player with a REAL de-interlacer like the DCDi chipset or the Genesis (Panasonic DVD XP30/50 RP82) The buget chip this yamaha uses will not do as good of a job. I would not use it.

5. HD upconversion is not all it is cracked up to be. My Dish box upconverts standard 480i to 720p and 1080i. When the source material sucks no matter what resolution you run is going to make it better.

I think they improved on the 2500 but the video features are a convience and nothing that a good DVD player and Dish Box are doing already.

The only thing I see the 2600 being worth the extra money for is for those with TVs that have HDMI inputs.

I'm new to the forum here and have been surfing for a few months. Anyway, I have been leaning heavy toward the 2500 and now with the 2600 coming out it might drive the price down a few more $s. Since I am trying to get the most bang for the buck and figure that I will not need all the "new" options on the 2600. I noticed that a reference to ABT (authorized dealer) and a price of $620, but when I looked online I see $1000. Do I need to call to get this price? Finally, a little more on topic, how long should I wait for the prices to come down and how far will they likely fall?

The HTR and RX-V series use the same amps, but are rated differently - The HTR line has the power amplifiers rated at 1000 Hz while the RX-V line is rated from 20-20000 Hz. The differences are more cosmetic than anything else.

The HTR-5990 is equivalent to the RX-V1600.

I really like this receiver. Which upconverting player would you guys pair with this? I was originally looking at the Yamaha DVD-S2500 but so many people have had SO many problems that I'd probably look elsewhere.

Recommendations?

I'm locking for a new receiver with HDMI and many other capabilities.
Now I’ve been trying to find a complete list of V2600 features with no success.

So does V2600 have

• Volume trim (V2500 has) - possibility to adjust volume level for each input channel (How about subwoofer?)
• Speaker setup / input source
• Subwoofer cross over (V2500 has) and phase
• Speaker distance adjustable in small steps? - even subwoofer?

Asked local (Finnish) Yamaha about the manual in PDF-format – received a polite reply that Yamaha don’t publish their manuals this way. (Well found Pioneer VSX-AX4AVi (VSX-74AXVi in USA) manual on the net and got when asked the manual for JVC RX-D702B (Available in Finland around new-year) in pdf-format. So wonder about Yamahas attitude towards potential customer.)
