Yamaha 663 - Passing HDMI audio through

I have my PS3 plugged into the 663 via HDMI, which is then plugged into my tv via HDMI. I have been unable to get the audio to be passed through to the tv (video is great). Looking through the manual I found a setting called 'Supported Audio' which implies you can either have audio played by the 663 OR passed through to be played externally.

Is there no way to get both?

Having the tv play the audio is good for late night gaming :D

the HDMI out on the receiver might be video only. (i'm betting/guessing)

Receivers are designed to be final destinations for audio signals, not too many of them have the extra and, for most situations and people, unnecessary feature of passing audio out through the HDMI. This is probably more a deal of choosing which features are important to the masses, and this one probably fell by the wayside. Hope this helps.

PS a suggestion may be to hook up an optical audio cable directly to your tv from the PS3 and just change the audio settings in the menu every time you want to use the tv for audio, a little inconvenient, but should work fine.

It Works

Check out page 98 of the manual. "Support audio" feature let you select whether the receiver decides the audio or passes it through to the HDMI out.

Sorry didn't read it completely - Nope no way to do both at the same time. For late night gaming it looks like you have to manually change the setting

No way to get audio to both, you have to change it manually in the HDMI set menu option.
