C'mon, I know someone out there has one they don't want/need anymore and would like to sell it to me for a reasonable price.

It might just be easier to go to a RadioShack and pick one up new. They're not that expensive. An SPL meter is kinda like a tape measure. IMHO, you just got to have one if you want your system to sound its best.

I know, I'm just trying to save a few dollars by buying used and I figured better to start here than ebay, as I'm sure most people here treat their equipment with care.

You are probably figuring that you will only use it once and then never again, so why not save a few bucks, right? I think you will find that it comes in very handy and you will get more use out of it than you may think.

Everytime you change components or settings, you could be in need of the meter to recalibrate. Add or remove furnishings and you should recalibrate. Curious what the SPL level is when watching your favorite movie or listening to music, you need the meter.

It's a good tool to have and they are relatively cheap, so just go get a shiny new one at your local Radio Shack. You'll be glad you did.

I'm figuring I will use it a good bit, as I will be helping others set up their equipment as well as my own from time to time, but I'm just looking to save some money. If I can't find a good deal on one here or there, I'll just pony up the cash and get a new one.
