Wondering if this is any indication of where Yamaha is headed

The times will always change. Prices will always increase due to various reasons. Software and hardware will change.

But some things remain the same. The audio hobby has always been a niche market, whether it’s 1950 or 2050. And even within the audio hobby, about 90% only use AVR, and only about 10% use separates like AVP and Stereo Preamps and Amps.

When the economy is slow, companies tend to release fewer models. For example, for many years Yamaha didn’t even have an AVP/Amp. Then they released their CX-A and MX-A AVP and Amp. Then now they stopped. But when the economy picks up, Yamaha will likely release new AVP/Amp and AVR models.

Some of us had surround even before it was invented.

Run a back pair of speakers off of your amps B switch with the negatives tied together....It worked surprisingly well to aid an airy sound to everything !
Oh yes! Same here, way back I had your usual two-channel stereo receiver with an a/b switch. Had 4 speakers plus off of the B speakers I ran two little speakers mounted on each side of my sofa. That was early '80s.

Not knowing very much at all, in my early '20s was into a lot of things, motorcycles, hotrod cars, home audio, than added VHS to the pile. Way way before surround sound.

One night was sitting thinking of how or what I could do to get an enveloping sound watching movies especially once I added a stereo VHS player. Was playing an Atari game thinking about that.

Thank You Sir! For the Very good memory, of posting your comment. I do remember friends would love to come over Friday and Saturday movie nights.
