I just purchased a new sharp LC-45GD4U LCD. I am having my room wired for the TV, it is being mounted on wall but my components will be about 8ft from the TV. So here is the first question, I am having all my wires ran behind the wall, in order to achieve this i am looking at needing about 25ft of component wire from dvd player to tv.. the way we initially where considering wiring was having component wires run from DVD player to a wall jack (3 prong jack) then from the other side connect another set of component wires that will run behind wall to another jack located behind the tv, then another set from taht jack into TV, i will be running my RCAs for sound the same was as well. I would like to do this to prevent having just a hole in teh wall where wire comes out. So will running through two jacks cause a serious reduction in quality, two running 25ft of wire, will taht reduce quality?

Now for sound questions, my room is small, 14x13 I do not want speakers all over the room.. or should i say the wife doesnt ), so what I was looking at was the Bose 3-2-1 system... I know I have read bose is **** ect ect.. money really isnt an player in all of this so let me hear what the best bet for sound, wiring ect ect

Thanks and great site!

You may not have the cabling length problem if you had purchased Sharp's other 45" LCD model LC-45GX6U. That model has an AVC (audio/video console) that can be located along with your components and so you'll just need to route their supplied cable to the back of the TV (hidden). All your connections go to the AVC. Maybe you can do an exchange with your vendor - Sharp's LC-45s have the same pricing.

If you don't make the exchange:
The 25' length of component cabling to the TV won't be a problem for signal degradation, providing the cables have sheilding. However, since your LCD has HDMI & DVI inputs, I'd recommend making provisions for at least HDMI. The newer higher-end DVD players already have HDMI and future affordable receivers will have HDMI outputs. Laptops/PCs have DVI outputs and some future receivers will also have DVI outputs. You have a huge investment on your LCD, why not take advantage of its digital input capabilities now or at least plan to later on?

As for your speakers, you need to audition and compare them for yourself - we all have our own tastes for full-range sound replication. Authorized Bose dealers are required to isolate Bose speakers systems (for obvious reasons) so it will be difficult to compare them in the same room with other brands.

For a small room, I'd purchase for myself HSU's Ventriloquist VT-12 with their STF-1 subwoofer. Check it out: http://www.hsustore.com/vt12.html

I believe the STB that comes with some of the 45" Sharp LCD displays is only 2 meters so it is designed to sit directly under the display - not 25 feet away. They sell an 'add-on' cable that will carry the signal further. I believe it is a 10 meter cable and is probably a couple hundred bucks.

You won't have serious signal degradation by putting outlets on the wall - but with everything hidden behind the LCD, a hole in the wall really won't matter. You also have to consider that you should be running at the minimum: 1 s-video, 1-composite, 1-component, and 1 DVI or HDMI cable for your display. Preferably a piece of conduit if allowable.

As for Bose: There is a reason everyone says it is a waste of money: IT IS A WASTE OF MONEY!!!

If the WAF is an issue, then go with some nice in-wall speakers - check www.sonance.com for some very good quality in-walls that can be painted to match and aren't even as intrusive as the Bose garbage. You won't be sorry going with in-walls over Bose - and you should score extra on the WAF for sensitivity to interior design. ;)

Don't jump the gun on anything without doing full research on the product just because you have cash burning a hole though. It is important to explore your options and make the most of what cash you have.

Nice set, drool, drool, drool. Let us know what you think of it once you get it hooked up.
