very cool thread. Actually I am doing some graduate research on this topic and plan to redesign the "packaging" that our beloved speakers come in. This way we all can be happy and not have to hide them anymore.

I think that a good option (though expensive) would be something from Artcoustic. They have very compact and stylish speaker options.

Jaxvon. Really cool website. I wonder how muffled the mids/highs are with the art. What if you used standard in walls with our own art work over them? Could we be put in prison for patent infringement?

Designstate,

Can you do better than the "rock" speakers on my patio? They get pi$$ed on by the dog all the time  I think I've lost 1500Hz and up. I bet you'll make a quick million if you can redesign a bookshelf with a 6.5" woofers and a 1" tweeter to make our wives smile. Remember, we need 7 of these things in our living areas, so mix it up a little, OK? ;)

I am not married but man how is it that guys let their wives get off saying that you can't do something?? I'd tell her ok, well you can cut the grass from now on...OR let me build my home theater. If she can't compromise for you then she is selfish a B!@TCH.

You bet. My whole goal is to incorporate the speakers into the living environment so well that they either become art pieces on display or are integrated so well they are like lamps well placed around the room. But the main goal is to do all this so we can all enjoy great sound without having to beg. Women just don't like boxes.

Please though, I am open to any input at all from you all. This is the forum of people that I want to hear from. It is all of you that I want to please as well as your wives. So, ask them and tell me what they want.

No in-wall speakers?

I would check out Proficient's in-ceiling lineup.
This is what I mainly install when I am asked about in-wall/in-ceiling speakers.
Great sound and a great price.

Speaker craft makes some nice pivoting in ceiling speakers some model have gain adjustments. Also you might get good sound dispersment with some Klipsch because of the fact that they are horn loaded.

Do we have the same wife? Here's where I ordered mine.

http://www.htd.com/

On the left hand menu, select in-wall speakers / Multi-purpose. I've got the MP-R65 In-Ceiling Speakers (6.5 inch).

I'm quite surprised. I have a pair of these in the ceiling of every room in my house including my rears for my HT. So that's 9 rooms total (whole house audio system). I can't complain and they are quite reasonably priced. They sound very good, even as rears in a high action movie. Now I just need my 42" plasma to be delivered...
