Hi everyone, just got into home theatre.

I currently have a 3.1 system. I'd like to make it 5.1. I'm planning on buying the es15s or the es20s. I'd be using ONE pair of these as my left and right speakers and keeping my current centre. My old L & R will be used for surrounds (that's correct?).

Would the es15s or the es20s have enough bass so that I could sometimes not have to use my sub when watching movies?

Thanks guys

ES20 has the 6.5" driver and lower extension, so if the goal is to go without a sub sometimes, that's the one between the two. The ES15 may sound a bit cleaner due to the 5.25" driver, but won't have the extension.

I was thinking that might be the case.

It wouldn't be the first time that I'd thought something, only to be proven incorrect later, that's why wanted to check with you guys.

Thankyou

I had Polk's S-15 for my mains some years ago, for my small HT room. My distance from the 55" TV and front speakers are 6 feet or so. Today, I use those S-15's as my side surrounds. My room size is 8 X 10. These speakers get good praise. I imagine the ES series has good marks. You will always have to use a subwoofer for base, with the 15 or 20's for full effect of movies. And those Polk's have good clarity and could be a bit "Shouty," with some music. I am into Movies and 10% music. Good luck and have fun!

Thanks guys.

One last question which I find hard to get an answer on. On a 5.1 setup where should most money be allocated speaker wise?

I'm under the assumption that funds should go in this order: the centre, then the fronts, then the amp and the rest is not that important?
