I was experimenting with my 2ch setup. I hooked my little SMSL SA-50 to my turntable and I am amazed!

Why does it sound just as good as my Onkyo 876? It definitely runs cooler.

Well the Onkyo runs hot because of insufficient heat sinking and the HDMI boards in Onk's generally run very hot anyways for whatever reason. As to why they both sound equally good, if both amps are running well within their capabilities there's no reason why they shouldn't sound pretty similar.

I have an SMSL amp and have had it for about...........hmm must be about 3+ years at this point and it's always been a great amp for me. I've used it to drive just about everything I own at one point or another and it does pretty well for a little guy.

Certainly makes me rethink stressing out over specs and even totally reconsidering getting a dedicated integrated amp for my turntable.

Well, as long as you're not pushing the amp beyond its capabilities and you can hit the desired SPL's without any distortion or clipping, there's really no reason you need more.

That little amp is a highly regarded Tripath class D amp.

It quite likely is a better amp than the Onkyo amps. I don't have a very high opinion of receiver amps few amps are worse.
