Why are separates so much more expensive?

Only if you choose to take it that way. Someone who admits to using 14 exotic amps in one system ("6 for the fronts alone") should expect to get picked on.

I suppose that's right, but any way I miscounted there are 8 on the fronts and six on the rest.

A good many of them I bought cheap on eBay not working and fixed them for close to shirt buttons. That's what makes all this fun. I collected them over two years as I was doing my design. Three units I had for many years since new, and the big 909 I bought nearly new. That gave me 8 amplifier channels The other 3 units (6 amp channels) were gravy. I have one unit on my lower level system and keep a spare to put service if I have to service one. This are restoration units, and I have few older versions around waiting for me to update them.

My stereo computer speakers run 1050 clean watts per side, for a total of 2100 watts. 2 x 20AMP 120VAC dedicated lines run to my computer.

My new main stereo system (to be built this summer and fall) will run about 1675 watts per side, for 3350 watts.

For me it is not about utilizing a 200wpc amp to its full potential, it is about having that amp give my speakers all the power they need to operate to their full potential. My receiver never did it.

Since that is what it does, even if its just a fraction of what the amp can put out, it was worth the expense.

It is an outboard unit. It requires no power. I would get an equipment case. I think the largest from Radio Shack might contain them. Install the boards and make sure there is no shorting to the case. Put three sets of terminals on one end for the input, and three the other end for the output. Label them so you don't get them mixed up.

That should make a neat job. You will need soldering skills, but I assume you have them.

Make sure you read the other link I sent so you know the caveats concerning relay operated speaker protection.

Just suck it up and sell the acurus amps and get a MPS-1/2. You know you want to get some new gear, now you have a good reason!

It seems as though I actually have been upgrading my receiver every couple of years... but I think I need to slow down, I can't afford to keep upgrading at this rate. Everytime I get something new, it's more expensive than what it's replacing... but it sure is fun!

I have never sold anything on eBay before, but I might just start. Buying new stuff sure is fun alright.

I try to stay away from selling certain things on ebay since shipping is always difficult for some items. I've been lucky enough to sell most of my stuff locally, either on Craigslist, or on the bulletin board at my work. It's an electronic bulletin board, kinda sorta like a forum, so I just post my stuff for sale, and I usually am able to sell things fairly quickly. Audiogon would also be a good place to sell your sutff.

Yeah, if I were to do it all over again, I'm not so sure if I would get separates. Sometimes the thought of just one HDMI cable from a Combo HD Player to a Receiver and one HDMI cable from the Receiver to the TV seems pretty nice. Throw in DTS-MA bitstream and it looks mighty fine.

It is hard to beat that... but I would still go with the separate 7 ch. amp. I really like having HDMI for all of my main components... PS3, XBOX 360 Elite, HD-A2, PC (DVI-HDMI) and one HDMI from the receiver to the tv... There is a lot less going on in the back of my receiver now than there was in the past, now I don't have any optical digital cables being used, just two digital coax, the rest is HDMI, and one set of component video and rca audio for the Wii, and I do have wires there for an xbox in case anyone ever brings one over.

Not as much as one may think... I mainly got the PS3 for a blu ray player, but I sitll use it for gaming, and the Wii doesn't get as much use as I would like, since I haven't found too many games for it that I like, but it's good for parties and get togethers, everyone loves Wii Sports. The 360 is mostly used for Call Of Duty 4, and Halo 3. I am however eagerly awaiting the latest Gran Turismo game for the PS3, the demo is awesome, and the graphics are unbelievable.
