Who makes the BEST speaker mounts?!

I am planning on using bookshelf speakers in my theater for a few different reasons. I cannot for the life of me find any decent mounts. At least they don't look very decent, and looks is all I can go on without buying them all. I am still undecided, but right now I am between EMPTek and Aperion Audio, both of which have curved cabinets. Let me know what you guy have, or have used, or what I should be looking for. Anything would be a big help.

Thank you!

Personally, I don't like to wall mount. If you are going to, you want front ported or sealed speakers, so that should be a factor in your selection. Ones that have mounting options built in already would be a bonus, because it makes selecting a mount easier. Parts express has a good variety. B-tech makes some good ones as well.

+1 on the B-tech ... used for the left and right surround speakers

I saw the B-Tech today, but couldn't (in my short search) find a US seller of them.

I do believe all of the speakers I am considering have mounting holes in them already. As far as ports, some are rear port (EMPTek E5Bi, and Aperion Audio Versus Grand) and some are front port (Aperion Versus Forte). Just curious, why don't you like to wall mount? I mean, my surrounds are pretty much 100% going to be wall mounted, but I could be swayed on the fronts :)

Speakers need some breathing room and there are no mounts that will get them far enough away from the walls to keep that to a minimum. Front ported or sealed will help with that though. Surrounds not such a big deal, but I wouldn't mount the mains if it wasn't necessary.

Just to add to the breathing room...You want to pull the fronts away from the walls to reduce interference with reflections coming from the backwall and muddying up the soundstage. Rear ported speakers are even more susceptible to this. :)

Well the panavise mounts from Parts Express look pretty nice. They are damn expensive, but seem solid, made in the USA, and they are 7" long so pretty good distance from the wall.

How far away from the wall should they really be? Does it matter which speaker, or is it always a set minimum distance? I guess while I am asking questions, what about from the side walls?

Thanks,
Sean

The Panavise mounts are rated for speakers up to 8 lbs according to the manufacturer. If your speakers are heavier, then I would go with the B-Techs which are rated for speakers up to 55 lbs.

They are rated for up to 20lbs

The B-Tech you are referring to are the ones that clamp on the sides of the speakers right? I am OK with that style (though I like a fastener somewhere) but as I mentioned before all of the speakers I am looking at have curved sides. I am not sure there is enough flat area to clamp them properly. Also as I mentioned before I cant find a US seller of B-Tech.

My bad.. was looking at the 100106-B my mistake.

The minimum difference away from the walls will be speaker dependent. My old PSB Alphas are designed to be placed into cabinets or close to the walls to make them sound good. Other PSB models need to be pulled away from the wall. There are speakers designed specifically from a purely acoustic point of view that work much better on walls and then off walls.
