Which players have really good DIVX support?

I'm thinking about getting a player with DIVX support as I have about 100GB of video content I'd like to access outside of my computer. I've been looking at a Pioneer model which I believe is the DV-400-K. The only thing is, I'm having trouble finding a player that offers DIVX support, but is also a universal player so I don't have to give up my DVD-audio discs. Anybody have any thoughts on this?

All of the Oppo models claim to support DivX 6 so they might be a consideration...especialy considering they get high marks for dealing with DVD, DVD-A, and SACD.

The Pioneer Elite DVD player plays DivX and every SACD, DVD audio formats. I have the DV-48AV. I haven't tested a DivX disc yet, but it's supposed to work! :)

The Oppo 981 doesn't claim to -- it does it! As long as the DivX video isn't greater than 720 x 480, it'll play just fine. And yes, it does a stellar job with DVDs, DVD-As and SACDs.

cheers,

For the price, the Oppos are the way to go IMHO.

Pioneer settled a class action lawsuit over the poor quality of their players less than a year ago, so I can't recommend any of them.

Really? My Pioneer 588a ran wonderfully: good DVD playback, good DivX playback, good CD, DVD-A and SACD playback . . . never once had a problem with it.

cheers,

Thanks for all your input guys. Supervij, I had forgotten about the DV-588A-S. It will probably be hard to find, but I think it's going to be my target for the short term, unless the Oppo 980H takes a significant price reduction. It's hard enought to justify another player when my Samsung DVD HD841 works as it was originally intended. Unfortunately, it was not intended to play divx files from the factory.

If you don't mind used, someone here just posted a 980HD for sale at $135. Check it out here.

You can also check with Oppo, they sell refurb units for a fair amount less than MSRP with a full warranty. I don't know if they have 980s refurb or not, but I'd imagine they do by now.

j_garcia, thanks for that one. I will check there as well. You guys are killing me with choices. Now it might be down to which ever one I can find first for the best price.
