Which oppo now

Convinced that oppo has best bang for buckand seeing that these new dvd players will show a better picture, big question now, The 970 or 971 Oppo. Its odd that the latest model went back to the technology of the 971 and chose that one to improve on. is the 971 the better choice? Will be hooking it up to a 42" panasonic. Thanks everyone for all your help. Going to me make look good Christmas morning to the other half

If you need to use a component video connection, then your best bet is the less expensive 970HD model. For an HDMI connection and the best video quality take your pick between the higher end models (black or silver). The new black 981HD adds 1080P output and SACD playback over the older silver 97HD model.
