The PS3 can only decode the HD audio formats internally, so the RX-V661 will get you the same processing performance as the RX-V663. The RX-V663 has a better amplifier, but with those speakers it won't likely effect you. If you should need more power after getting the RX-V661 you can use the preouts to connect a power amplifier.:)

My vote, the RX-V661, since you won't be utilizing the HD audio processing on the RX-V663 with the PS3. The other slight advantage of the RX-V663 is the HDMI 1.3 deep color support. If your display is not HDMI 1.3 this won't affect you either.

No one is going to need deep color support.

If you are going to stay with your PS3 as your Blu-ray/DVD solution, then save yourself some money and go with the RX-V661 like Seth=L said.

Assuming that whatever you already have is not satisfactory (if what you already have is satisfactory, save your money and forget buying a new receiver), I think it is worth considering the RX-V663, as it is more "future proof" given that it can decode the new audio formats. Of course, it depends upon what you decide to get in the future whether it will matter. And, of course, which is a better buy also depends upon what the prices are that you can find for each. Since you don't need the extra capability of the RX-V663 now, if the price is very different, I would go with the RX-V661, but if the prices you can get are within about $50 or $100 different, I would go with the RX-V663.

I like the 661 and currently have no need for the processing that the 663 does. The 661 will however force me to get a Blu Ray player than can internally decode as my receiver will not.

As for the better amp, I am not clear who defines better and wouldn't worry about it. I can assure you that the 661 sounds excellent with non-high end speakers such as yours and mine. As for the features, certainly the 663 wins.

If you need the lowest price possible, get the 661. You will not be disappointed. If the price is close, get the 663.
FWIW, I think internally decoding Blu Ray players will be available for a good long time and am not worried about needing a receiver to do the decoding. As for sound, it's the same regardless of where it's processed (player or receiver) despite some hogwash posted on forums from time to time;).

well since that I am using the ps3 for audio I should be fine with the 661 and since its about 100 or so bucks cheaper I might as well go with that and If I need more power I can just buy a seperate amp

Perhaps Sony may decide to milk people by allowing DTS HD bitstreaming, and not decoding on the PS3. In that case, the 663 has all the bases covered.

The current PS3s aren't capable of DTS-HD, Dolby Digital Plus or TrueHD bitstreaming, it's a hardware limitation.

Go with 663

J&R was having a deal on the 663 for 400 shipped. You have to call to get that price as it was some sort of promotion with that other av forum ;)
There is a bit of a waiting list, but mine just shipped today after ordering early last week.
I'm giddy like a school girl!

wow, if I hadn't just blown my wad on new speakers, I'd be getting that now, but I guess I'll just have to wait and pay $500 for it later on. :(
