first off i like to apologize for all my questions lately. but i am new to this audio system, and i would liek to know my options before i head out and buy equipment.

here is my final decision on my system

2-channel only for music (highest quality possible)

would it be better to get a high quality cd player like the Onkyo DX-7555 for example, and run it through analog to a regular reciever in the lower budget range ($300-$400)

or would it be better to get a regular cd player and run a digital ouput to a higher end reciever and have the reciever convert the audio.

once again i want the better quality sound.

from what ive read, most people tend to agree that a good cd player with a high end DAC ran through a reciever or amplifier with a Pure Direct Mode on gives the best possible sound. am i correct on that or not?

It's up to you to figure out which way sounds better. Without knowing what DAC the receiver or the cd player has is the unanswered question. Do you have a receiver yet? If so run the player using analog out to receiver. This way it uses the DAC in the player. How does it sound to you? Now use the digital out to the receiver. This uses the DAC in the receiver. How does it sound? Paying more for a cd player does not mean the sound will be better than the DAC in your receiver & vise versa. Only thru listening can you answer this question. Have fun.

Your speakers will make more difference than either your disk player or receiver.

I have to agree with Corey. Speaker choice and room acoustics is where the SQ is made or lost. By comparison, the electronics are not that much of an influence IMO.
