funked up, I have found that publications pertaining to home theater are good sources in which one might see new products. The publications are however, agenda driven by advertising. Thus, one must consider the articles with a bit of suspicion weighing veracity vs. the bias of the author.
The reason that I frequent this Audioholics website is to obtain solutions to problems I have with my home theater components. I also scan the various threads as a means to expand my understanding of audio and video. I have learned much by reading comments from those who have hands-on experience.
The reverse is true when I have sought assistance from manufacturers support people. To my dismay, too often I have found that I know more about the actual workings of their product than the service people do. It is quite disappointing to speak to someone who relies only on a manual to respond to my question and admits to never have actually seen the product in person.
Most frustrating is that even though the person on the other end of the line speaks my native language, more often than not, their diction understandable in their home country makes it impossible for me to understand what they are saying.
So, while the various home theater magazines serve a purpose and mfg service people are there to "help," the best learning experience along with the most valid information is right here in this forum.
