I subscribe to Sound And Vision magazine, it's pretty good, but I haven't really checked any other magazines out.

Sound and Vision is good. Home Theater is good as well but they are changing their format to fit in more with Pop Culture and total home integration. I also get The Absolute Sound and they too, have changed some, for the better I might add.

These magazines, many times, are the onus for discussion of new products and technology that we discuss here and on other forums. Go ahead and subscribe. If for nothing else, they'll give you something to read when you're sitting on the head.

They are among the worst offenders for recommending exotic cables and equipment racks. They even carried an ad for blocks to raise cables off the floor! Nowdays, I read TAS for the pictures and for laughs.

Sound and Vision Magazine is better than Home Theater magazine. I found it really odd that Home Theater Magazine's April issue was still lamenting whether or not Warner Bros move to Bluray would kill HD DVD. The whole tone of the magazine seemed to be old news.

Seriously, I have no life.
Those are good sites, I have used a couple of them to reseach things in the past. I was asking for magazines though, because I do not have internet at home, only at work, and while I do have some free time to use AH, I try not to spend to much time on here as I do like my job. So it would be nice to get my home theater fix once in a while at home(besides the actually use of my home theater that is:))
I would suggest Sound& Vision. It tends not to sell the snake oil type products.:D
If you want only a periodic fix, buy it on the stand at those times.

I won't be terribly surprised when I see a new magazine on the shelf called "Which Home Theater Magazine?".

funked up, I have found that publications pertaining to home theater are good sources in which one might see new products. The publications are however, agenda driven by advertising. Thus, one must consider the articles with a bit of suspicion weighing veracity vs. the bias of the author.

The reason that I frequent this Audioholics website is to obtain solutions to problems I have with my home theater components. I also scan the various threads as a means to expand my understanding of audio and video. I have learned much by reading comments from those who have hands-on experience.

The reverse is true when I have sought assistance from manufacturers support people. To my dismay, too often I have found that I know more about the actual workings of their product than the service people do. It is quite disappointing to speak to someone who relies only on a manual to respond to my question and admits to never have actually seen the product in person.

Most frustrating is that even though the person on the other end of the line speaks my native language, more often than not, their diction understandable in their home country makes it impossible for me to understand what they are saying.

So, while the various home theater magazines serve a purpose and mfg service people are there to "help," the best learning experience along with the most valid information is right here in this forum.

Better is debatable because with S&V, you have to look at their website to obtain full test results for their prdoucts being reviewed which in my mind is abolutely absurd. The whole point of a magazine is not having to go onto the web. I mean really!! How many of us go to the thrown with a laptop? ;)

This sounds like a good idea. Pick one up here and there, if I like them, then maybe I'll subscribe. Thanks.

Well that is annoying, but getting a new Home Theater Magazine, an April 2008 edition, and having them debate Warner Bros influence on the HiDef war, and wondering whether or not HD DVD will survive is more than odd. The whole tone of the magazine was so 3 months ago.

I've noticed with all of these audio mags that they have good and bad monthes. You shouldn't judge the magazine over one bad issue. How can test reports on the latest BluRay DVD players be so 3 monthe old?

When it comes to the audio/music part.....
I have been subscribing to stereophile for a long time, but the value of that magazine is getting less and less obvious....

I've read all the reviews in Affordable audio, and I thought it was fine for a while, but I'm not sure anymore....
And they're also now suddenly starting to review incredibly expensive cables
