I want to replace the rack in this pic:

because it's DIY, and I find it ugly now ...

of course I will have to save some money for this rack, but I'm just curious ...

silver looks cooler, but I have wenge colored furniture ... what do you guys think?

I got attracted to that rack because of those spikes on each shelf, yours have them too but are much higher spiked ... nice looking rack too!

I have to admit that black rack with the spikes looks pretty sexy, in that "this gear means business" sort of way . I actually didn't switch by choice entirely - I wanted my Synergy rack with black posts, but I just happened to find one on sale for 50% off except that it had silver posts. Once I got everything installed, I think I am a lot happier with the silver - it seems to blend in better.

The one in the bedroom (pictured) came in black or silver with your choice of spike/cap color (black, chrome, satin nickel) and since the Synergy worked out well, I figured I'd stick with the silver in the bedroom, even though everything but the Pioneer is black.

Pretty nice lookin' rack, especially for DIY.

I think that black tends to integrate with many different things easier. But I don't think you can really go wrong with either.

Sorry, but I've never heard of the color "Wenge".

Record Live Music.

My wife is a cellist and use to do a lot of auditions. To get invited to an audition you had to submit a cassette tape and then it became a CD. Instead of paying someone to record and make a tape or CD we set up a small recording studio in our basement. What you see in the picture is what is left of the studio (six track cassette - Vestax MR6, two track cassette-Tascam 122 MKII, six track digital recorder - Vestax HDR6) integrated with the current "home theater" stuff.

Now she's the principle of the Air Farce Strings- sort of like Mozart being paid to write music for a soap comercial. But the money's good (sort of like a GS-14).

I agree with Adam, Mike. I think the two contrast nicely, when the rack's black and the hi-fi's silver, as is the case with my own though, I should add, purely by chance as the rack carried my previous (black) hi-fi.

Negative. It's Yamaha's Universal Player DVD-S2700. I bought it because I wanted a player in keeping with the Z9 - looks are important to me (though looking at the room you wouldn't know it ). I consider the player to be excellent at what it does, but absolutely awful whenever you need to change anything like track, rewind etc. It's painfully slow at loading CDs - in keeping, I believe (?), with most Universal Players as the player first has to determine what type of disc it's dealing with - and excruciatingly slow with the likes of DVD-As.

Thanks Dave. I no longer live there anymore though, having moved just this last weekend past to London (well, thereabouts). Alas, finding a new flat which met most of my criteria resulted in taking on a flat with a living room smaller than my old.

Now I've to go through the lengthy process of setting up the speakers, traps and couch to obtain the best acoustic response I can. No rest for the wicked I'm afraid.
