Well, the thing to consider is that the new one is being made now, when manufacurung cost is higher than ever, vs an existing one. Even if they're exactly equal, I think it would be better to buy vintage and recondition.

What's your opinion of the Thorens TD-165? I have read that the platter bearing is smaller, but it's as good as the TD-164 in other respects.

They're not equal, TLS' are idler drive, the new one belt drive....

I got the Thorens model wrong- it's the TD-125, as seen in his photo. I asked about the TD-165 because someone nearby is selling one.

I don't think I would buy an idler-drive turntable- it's easier to find a replacement belt than idler wheel and the idler transmits noise to the platter, unlike a belt.
