ood afternoon and happy upcoming weekend :) Dam winter is relentless. Snow was heavy and I had to use the snowblower. Drive is getting filled again but this is the lighter stuff without the ice pellets in it so going hand shovel that. I got a loaf of homemade bread in the maker and two loaves of carrot cake in the oven.
:)

Despite being tired from too much fun and drink with my trailer trash friends , I did manage to listen to this last night;

Found this recently. It's my third find by them. A- condition. Guitarist Niles has played basically on everybody's album in the 1970s till now including Bowie, Madonna, Duran Duran, Mick Jagger, etc.

Played Dylan's Slow Train Comin', Saved and Shot of Love on LP tonight. "Saved" might be the best rocker. Gospel/rock combo. The first two were recorded at Muscle Shoals. Probably played Slow Train Comin' as much or more than any other album in the 80's.

I used to have a similar setup, where my now-extant ProJect RPM-1 turntable sat to the right of my center speaker...on a similar (but all black) stand. I didn't have enough space for a dust cover, and the turntable barely fit.

Things changed within a year when I moved it to my office and created a nice 2-channel system there. Shortly after I upgraded to an E.A.T. C-Major turntable & Ortofon Quintet Blue cartridge. All gone now, and even better being in a dedicated room.

Remind me, which cartridge & phono stage are you running with that gorgeous Oracle turntable?

Carlos sounds great tonight! On the Luxman PD171A with a Shure M97eX cartridge fitted with a Jico hyper-elliptical stylus.

Oh man you'll be so disappointed in the phono stage. :) Its the phono preamp on the Yamaha RX-A3060 AVR. I figure phono stages haven't changed any in the last 30 years so I'm not going to toss away money on a phono stage. I take that money and put it on vinyl. :) The tonearm is SME 309 and the cartridge is an Ortofon Black.

Ortofon Black? That could be a 2M Black, a Quintet Black, or a Cadenza Black. :D

I'll have to assume the 2M Black because it's the only one that's a moving magnet type that would work with the built-in phono amp of your AVR. I had a Schitt Mani for a while and it was surprisingly good for $129. Now they've upgraded it to a Mani 2, and it's a bit better at about the same cost.

After I got the Reference 1's and the Luxman amp, I figured it was time to upgrade the phono amp again. I'll be honest, I just don't hear a whole lot of difference as they're all supposed to decode the RIAA response curve the same way. The big difference is when one has gone over to moving coil cartridges and GAIN and LOAD is far more detectable. Now for one of the turntables I'm running the Musical Surroundings Phenomena II+ and it's nicer and quieter than the older Mani, with more known settings. With the Mani I had to keep going back to a website (another forum) where there was a good posting that showed the best settings for various cartridges. With the Phenomena II+ I have the manual and changing settings is MUCH simpler as I switch out cartridges now & then.

There's a lot of really good phono stages in the $150-$500 range that would be noticeably better with that cartridge. Might be worth trying one at home if you can.
