I have it, they cleaned up the picture somewhat and the sound is clearer, but don't expect miracles.

Enemy Mine is kinder like “Robinson Crusoe In Space” where two mortal enemies fight for survival on a deselect world. The opening is very cool with mellow outer space tone by composer (Maurice Jarre). There is a slight difference in the Dolby film, the DVD as less impact when the spaceships emerge from the space station to engage in a space battle. The laserdisc however supports a nice low end in the music that thumps away, lucky I have two versions of the film.
I haven't seen that since it first came out. I seem to recall not liking it, but I can't remember why. Maybe it is worth trying again.

I liked Enemy Mine. Not a great flick, but it had it's moments.

Issss ssssso! ;)

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed Dennis Quaid and mostly Louis Gossett, Jr.'s portrayal of the alien. This movie has action, humor, suspense, and a few other emotions...no spoilers here. Top flight flick.

My 10 all-time "classic" sci-fi movies, not new releases which would add many shows like LOTR, are in order:

1. Alien
2. Star Wars
3. Terminator
4. 2001: A Space Odyssey
5. Dark Star (John Carpenter's first film)
6. Close Encounters
7. War of the Worlds (1953 ed...broke fantastic new ground)
8. Silent Running
9. Starman
10. Enemy Mine

Honorable mention:
Predator, Buckaroo Bonzai, ET, Remo Williams-The Adventure Begins (not so sci-fi-ish), and The Day the Earth Stood Still. (Sorry, I couldn't stand Black Hole or Lost In Space.)

Have we heard from the OP? Now that he has 600 different movies to pick from .... what did he play?

I think it was Quaid that didn't work for me, not the movie...;) All of the Quaids can be annoying.

There is the mid 60s release of Robinson Crusoe on Mars, very good flick.

And then, of course, there is Amazon Women on the Moon. (A spoof rather than real SciFi. Hilarious. Especially "the man with no soul".)

Galaxy Quest was another spoof. Funnier than I expected it to be.

My friend I saw that when I was a young kid, during the late, late show, it was actually called The Nightowl Show with Big Wilson on channel 6 (indie back then) funny how the human mind works?

Most of the movie is between the two characters, enemies. Interesting what one might do when just the two of you and cannot communicate properly.

Congrats on the renovation. I'm going to assume everything is calibrated already, so you don't need to watch AVIA or DVE.

If it was me the first movie I would watch would be

LOTR: Fellowship of the Ring Extended Edition

I greatly preferred the David Lynch movie of Dune.
I had forgotten The 13th Floor, that one was entertaining and would be worth seeing again.
Dark City ranks among my favorite SF movies.

In addition to picking up the AVIA setup DVD, definitely pick up the Radio Shack SPL meter. Get the analog (needle) one versus the digital. The difference is the digital will round to give you a reading, as the needle will give you a better display of the sound meter.

Since you are just starting out let me let you in on a secret...
You'll never be finished. You'll always be tweaking something.
