Disney’s “The Black Hole” has got a terrific blend of characters visual effects and not a bad story to follow. The opening score by John Barry is deep, but you really need to set the tone for the film because the black hole, sound effects of rumbling low end is deep sounding!

Starman and as it stands it’s a wonderful film with a feel good ending, the closing credits score sounds terrific in six-track Dolby stereo JBL THX sound system.

Here's the lowdown on Blade Runner:

The "Final Cut" will be released Dec. 18 on standard DVD, HD DVD and Blu-ray. The remastered Blade Runner "The Final Cut" will be released by Warner Home Video in a two disc special edition, a four disc collector's edition and a five disc ultimate collector's edititon, the latter in limited "Deckard Briefcase" packaging.

Ridley Scott said the DVD includes newly released footage, commentary and extended scenes, he even re-shot the death scene of replicant Zhora, played by Johanna Cassidy 25 years after the initial release of the movie.

Hope that gives you some insight.
Fantastic 5 disc edition coming my way !!
I do believe that Equlibrium will be the winner then War of the worlds.

A favorite of mine! I remember seeing it in the theaters as a kid...that is scary. Reference material? Not really, but a fun movie.

I am excited to see the 5 disc Blade Runner set. Should be interesting. '

Equilibrium is a very underrated movie. Not the best effects and the story isn't perfect, but it was a surprise and very enjoyable.

I watched The Black Hole TONS of times as a kid. I loved Bob and Vincent. I was always a little disturbed by that weird, kinda homo-erotic scene where Maximillian Schell climbed inside Maximillian to survive at the end.

One quick little question. I always interpreted the end where Maximillian is standing among all that fire and lava to mean that Maximillian and the doctor had gone to hell. Is that how you others figure it?

Yup, that was the idea conveyed, notice Maximilian's eyes, almost demonic if you will.

For pure eye candy and showing off picture/sound, I love Lost in Space. Not a great movie, but certainly entertaining (and it has Heather Graham, always an asset in my book.:))

Yes they where all damned but I can’t understand why the crew of the U.S.S.Cygnus is there, maybe they guardians watching the gates to make sure Rinehart doesn’t escape?

The ending was kinder peaceful passing though a gateway in heaven with an angel floating above gave me Goosebumps. The film was gritty very well polished which earned it an Oscar nomination. The Disney ride at Space Mountain Florida 1981, used a reference to the meteor storm where I found myself ducking, LOL.:)

HD special edition hmm, I wonder if Disney, can use digital rendering to only, only remove the wirers that where noticeable in certain parts, due to the camera angle and the lighting now that would make it look better. Remember they used the same technique for T2 1991 to remove the wires from the motorcycle as it was dropped from the bridge into the reservoir?

I'm a serious Sci-Fi fan.

Forbidden Planet is the godfather of all Sci-Fi films. (Krell technology rules)

You have to try:

Terminator (any of the series but T-2 Ulitimate Edition is a must)
Alien (any of the series)
Predator
AVP
Star Wars (your pick)
The Thing
Children of Men (something different)
Stargate Ultimate Edition
The Fifth Element
The Incredibles (killer animation)
Matrix
Bladerunner
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (cheesy, but OK filming)
I, Robot
The Day After Tomorrow
Pitch Black/Riddick
Gattaca
Jurassic Park (your pick)
Dune (original movie)
Planet of the Apes (original film)

Though not Sci-Fi I have to add:

LOTR: Extended Editions in DTS-ES

If you like SR-71 then maybe you should try “Final Approach” (1990) this is kinder like “The Twilight Zone” were a USAF pilot wakes up in a strange place just moments after his SR-71 crashed?

I’d like to get my hands on the laserdisc, I’ve seen it around 5 or 6 times on VHS PAL, and the afterburner check pushed the JBL 4645 to 126dbc! :p

”Event Horizon” (1997) this is kinder like the Shinning in outer space it freaked me out the first time I saw and now I know why they have B.B.C.F. ratings even thou I don’t agree with them cutting (head-butting) out of ”The Matrix” (1999).

The mix for this film was done at Pinewood Sheraton studios, its thunderously deep upon the opening credits as we move down a gateway, a wormhole a tunnel into another dimension of terror.

Saw it two or three times when it acme out projected, in Dolby SR-D and the large ball that helps the ship pass though time and space rumbled deeply throughout the auditorium, just as it does in the home.:p

Enemy Mine is kinder like “Robinson Crusoe In Space” where two mortal enemies fight for survival on a deselect world. The opening is very cool with mellow outer space tone by composer (Maurice Jarre). There is a slight difference in the Dolby film, the DVD as less impact when the spaceships emerge from the space station to engage in a space battle. The laserdisc however supports a nice low end in the music that thumps away, lucky I have two versions of the film.

Thou the Dolby 4.0 mix on DVD has good isolation of the discrete tracks it does need special adjustments of the sound system to really make it impact.

You're 120% correct Forbidden Planet was my first VHS and my first DVD. I would also recommend any movie connected to George Pal, When Worlds Collide, The Time Machine (the 1964? release, not the newer ones)the man knew how to do a production.

You are the man! I wonder if someone with guts (and hopefully talent) would ever do a remake, it could be (as the Klingons say) glorious.
Well it’s out on region 2 DVD now! If and when I take a trip down to HMV I’d been looking for this evening time classic in all its scope format, I heard that the sound as been tweaked, so as long as it near to the original but in a Dolby 5.1 form I don’t mind.

“My god skipper the damn things invisible” not sure if that was quote? :D
