I have a very good idea of what he has, they don't deviate much and I have some of these things. I bought them as a joke, they where only $30.:D

I so wish you would have filmed the destruction of the Insignia CD changer, I could use a good laugh right now.:)
It wasn't pretty but it sure made me feel better:D

what really sucks is that the police don't do anything about the white van scam, because they assert that, technically, its not illegal.

I can't decide what is more sketchy to me: the white van scam business model, or the mullets and tribal tattoos that the white van drivers sport...

Oh believe me there are blogs upon blogs of people getting hit up in parking lots by overeager guys in smokey white vans. One particular forum had people in Canada, the US, coast to coast getting duped into the scam, so it's pretty much a multinational occurence now, kinda like gypsies in italy, or chiclet sales at the border to tijauna. Could the police stop it if they wanted to?

So far the speakers are not sounding really terrible, probably because I really haven't put them under load yet. Still working some sub issues, and amp, but I am getting there.

In my opinion if you buy any speakers from a guy in a white van you should probably see a psychologist. Something is wrong with the part of the brain that controls logic...

Gee thanks. I, like others who didnt know much about stereo equipment at the time, got duped. This I do know. Thank you Nuglets for taking the time to point out this error, yet again.

It really like sounds like you get some perverse enjoyment from making jokes at other people's dismay...are you sure you are done embarrassing me?
I didn't really think that you would take it so seriously and I'm sorry for offending you. Feel free to label what I said as "perverse enjoyment from making jokes at other people's dismay" but I personally think that most would label it as poking fun and proceed to either laugh at it if they agree or ignore it if they disagree. Again, I'm sorry for embarrassing you but I will say this...You shouldn't let such little things that people say bother you so much, especially on an internet forum.

Hey you are absolutely right there. I guess I had just heard it from one too many people at that. Wrath first, reason later is not a good strategy but a powerful impulse. No harm no foul!

From reading about these TR's, it looks like half of the people that bought them were very pleased. I am wondering if these guys are just trying to make light of a terrible purchase and are lying to themselves and the world, or if there is any credence to the that these speakers are not all that bad....

Anyone else have a take on these TR's?

This closely resembles loudspeaker break-in jargon. Many folks believe in a fairytale called "loudspeaker Break-In", what they claim is that your speakers over a long period of time will break-in and become more enjoyable to listen to. Parts of the tale are correct, yes they do sound better (because some people believe it does), yes they break-in (in a matter of seconds, not weeks), but look at the details.

Acoustic memory is probably the shortest of senses. It is difficult to identify a good sounding speaker if one must wait even just a minute to listen again. But, like must memory if you pound it in to your brain it becomes easier to remember and is recognizable when you hear it.

Example, if you had owned and used PSB speakers on a frequent basis in a dark room and someone switched them with another speaker and you didn't see them while listening (you aren't aware they have been swapped), but you would notice a difference in sound instantly.

Back to the original question, why do some owners of TR like them. Probably the biggest factor, they have never owned good speakers before. But in the case where you had owned and used good quality speakers you would go through the "break-in" process, the time it takes for you to adapt your mind to what you perceive to be good sound. Not only that, most of the people that buy this speakers probably know nothing about soundstaging, tonal balance, and other considerations when listening and setting up a speaker system.

I don't mean this in an offensive way, but the reason that these people enjoy their TR speakers is probably ignorance. Just like an individual that likes Bose, they don't know any better. We all get the wool pulled over our eyes every once in a while, nobody is perfect. I say if a person enjoys something, even if it doesn't appeal or satisfy you or others, just let them blissfully enjoy it.
