I live in India and most of the dvds i rent here have a wierd loooking dts 9 symbol on it ....i know for sure nothin like that exists..... its like a a dvd 9 logo but written dts instead of dvd in the logo....i know that dvd 9 is dual layer.
What is a dts 9 logo ....as far as i know i found few threads on the internet where they said they were pirated copies <bootlegged> and i think they are as they are horrible quality, i could totally make out when i compared it to the dvds i own bought from the united stated

Dvd-9

I would like to know what DVD-9 really is.
Does it have to do with regions?
I have rented a few good movies with the DVD-9 logo and they sound good and the image is good. They do have in common that all have Asian languages sub-titles.

It means it is a single sided, dual layer disc. DVD-5 is a single sided, single layer disc and DVD-18 is a dual sided, dual layer disc.

Most likely DVD-5 - single layer, single sided.

The only difference between all of them is the capacity. You can store twice as much data on a dual layer disc, thanks to the two layers. Dual layer discs may be identified as RSDL (reverse spiral, dual layer), not just DVD-9 or DVD-18. DVD-5 probably won't have any indication at all, would be my guess. DVD-18 means it is DVD-9 on both sides.

What does it mean to the consumer? Not sure really, except that a single sided, dual layer disc means you don't need two discs nor do you need to "flip" the disc to watch a movie that is longer than what could be stored on a single layer disc with the audio and video data rates used. I don't see many "flipper" dual sided discs these days.
