Mans laws says get what you want, deal with the BS later. Bought my first boat without telling my ex wife  (which she loved after the fact). Tell her spending 15% more for all the enjoyment and quality time you will spend together, is priceless;)

Another thought is to spend your budget on a decent 2.1 setup and build from there.
Your money will go farther and you'll have better components.

Well the thing is she wont let me go over my limit cause im buying a new 52 lcd tv, the surround sound, and new furniture for the HT plus I have to consider te cost for new wiring and such too.

What would you say a good 2.1 setup would be? Ill just do that and buy the energy 5 for now for a temporary surround sound and when I get my new speakers I will move the energy upstairs to the living room or master bedroom.

Well... Before I put my foot in my mouth here let me ask... Is this strictly a "home theater" setup or will it double for music too?
I ask because I was into music when I was younger, but through the years I always had the standard CRT TV and cheap bookshelf stereo setup that rarely got used.
I decided, last year, to buy a "big screen" TV and setup a basic home theater with one of those cheap home theater in a box setups.
After I set it up I broke out some of my old CDs, but something was missing.
So one thing led to another... I bought the Polk Monitor 50s(not so good for music), replace the surround speakers with tSc TSS(which I love BTW),picked up a Dayton sub, and so on.
Had I asked the questions that you're asking now I could have saved myself some time and money and did right to begin with(ironic with the screen name of BudgetHT).
Anyway, I guess my point is, knowing what I know now, and how much I enjoy listening to music again, if I had $1000.00 budget to start with I would probably pick up the EMP E5Ti speakers and the RX-V665(you will need an external amp eventually to drive the EMP to their full potential so insert receiver of your choice). The 665 is great as a pre-pro, but as a stand alone it's lacking in it's amp section.

You can probably get the 50" S1 series from Panasonic for less and use the money to get the svs. The Panasonic will be superior in every way to all but a couple of LCDs;)
The samsung I found is for $1100. How much is the Panasonic?

You can get it for between 899-949..

Sears has it for 899 right now and you can probably get another 5% off that. Puts you back in the game

Listen to bandphan. This is good advice right here. Definitely go plasma.

Ive heard nothing but bad things about plasmas....burn in....not lasting as long as LCDs.....More power consumption.....Not good with lots of lights on.

Not strictly HT. I enjoy music too.

The plasmas of today are no longer burdened with these issues. You really have to try hard to get "burn in", they last just as long if not longer than LCD, power consumption is on par with LCD, and the panels are much brighter than their predecessors.
IMO plasma has an overall better PQ, and the deep blacks are incredible.

That used to be a genuine issue in the past, but is no longer a problem with todays units.
I started out with an LCD and had it for about a month. I couldn't take the motion blur so I exchanged it for the plasma and I will never go back to LCD.

I was going to suggest you go to your local dealer and look at both, but anymore that seems to be bad advise. Big B&Ms don't always have the displays setup with the best settings and that can make a negative impact in side by side comparisons. So if you go into BB or sears or... Arm yourself with knowledge so you can make an informed decision.

How are plasmas in rooms with alot of natural light? Cause if you guys say they are as good as you say they are I may look into a 42" for my living room as well since they are alot cheaper then LCDs
