What would you say a good 2.1 setup would be?
Well... Before I put my foot in my mouth here let me ask... Is this strictly a "home theater" setup or will it double for music too?
I ask because I was into music when I was younger, but through the years I always had the standard CRT TV and cheap bookshelf stereo setup that rarely got used.
I decided, last year, to buy a "big screen" TV and setup a basic home theater with one of those cheap home theater in a box setups.
After I set it up I broke out some of my old CDs, but something was missing.
So one thing led to another... I bought the Polk Monitor 50s(not so good for music), replace the surround speakers with tSc TSS(which I love BTW),picked up a Dayton sub, and so on.
Had I asked the questions that you're asking now I could have saved myself some time and money and did right to begin with(ironic with the screen name of BudgetHT).
Anyway, I guess my point is, knowing what I know now, and how much I enjoy listening to music again, if I had $1000.00 budget to start with I would probably pick up the EMP E5Ti speakers and the RX-V665(you will need an external amp eventually to drive the EMP to their full potential so insert receiver of your choice). The 665 is great as a pre-pro, but as a stand alone it's lacking in it's amp section.
