Just listened to this.
1974 analog LP.
A lovely performance.
I listened to it by the fire.
LPs sound particularly good down here by our Kentish fireplace.
I was lucky with this rig.
I'm hesitant to play that turntable to people otherwise they would all want to go out and buy a turntable. I actually have come to think it does sound better than CD played on the mid Level Panasonic BD player. It is Thorens TD 125 Mk II, SME series III arm and Shure V 15 xmr cartridge. I honestly think that is the best rig you can put together to play vinyl.
This whole system has surprised me.
The speakers are a personal tribute to Raymond Cooke founder of KEF and a mentor to me. The bass driver is his superb B139. Electonics is all Quad. Preamp Quad 34, power amps, Quad 909 of main speakers and Quad 405 II for the subs with Crown crossover. Quad FM 4 tuner.
The speakers are in a media center. The room has a pronounced echo and there is opportunity for bass leakage left right and center in this large space. The speakers are purposely a little over damped and very gently supplemented by a two low Q (0.5) coupled cavity subs.
By rights this should not be a good listening experience. However it is all over the whole room. I can listen far away by the fireplace many feet to the left of the left speaker, and it images very well and sounds like the ensemble playing between the speakers. Don't ask me why, I have no clue. It is just dumb luck.
Anyhow I celebrated the first day of Spring with a wee dramm. It will soon be a while before I can spin vinyl by the fire again. We are still only slightly above freezing by day and below freezing at night, often well below in the Minnesota North country. The snow banks are still very high and there is over 2' of ice on the snow covered lake. My neighbor who is an avid fisherman tells me there is 54" of ice on Lake of the Woods which straddles the Canadian border.
I have not been tempted to walk out to my shop and get to get the boat ready to launch!
