Steve Winwood / Back in the High Life

I'm just sorta getting the hang of this thread. Here's an album that I would be happy to play out on the main system to demo/show off whatever it is I think I got going on out there. It was commercially successful enough to be familiar and appealing to a wide audience. The recording is done well enough that the bass sounds natural with the accompaniment of what sounds to me like a mandolin in the title track.

I particularly like the photo's on the back cover. Being a former fan of scantily clad women, smoking and drinking there is something there for me. Good luck seeing all that on a CD cover. :p

Good Riddance

I was gonna call the post 'Gone Baby Gone' but the movie ... some people call it ethics.

Anyway !!! :)

That's right, folks. Gone is the Technics SL-QL15. I would have ditched the Music of Bulgaria album too if the original deal didn't fall through. The original deal was to trade it at my pawn shop for a JL Audio 8W3 v2 that Anunaki told me was good for my purposes. The pawn shop would have let me have the little sub for $75 cash or trade for the TT. However it turned out to be a lesser JL Audio sub in a 8W3 v2 box. They got duped and then would only give me $60 for the TT. Therefore I would not let them have the music of an entire people. The Bulgarians put there hearts into that album.

That TT has sold for over $150 on eBay. I paid $20 and got $60. I've never sold anything on eBay and didn't want the karmic debt of pushing that POS off on somebody while my name was attached to it. I'm a little disappointed about the sub though but I wanted it to be known that I didn't take a $20 hit as Swerd predicted ... and I had a blast with that linear tracker. In terms of dope that TT would be viewed as a gateway drug as it led to other TT's and way more LP's.

Kids, only dopes do LP's and TT's. Look at 3db. You just know he ain't right. :p

Thanks. I've been using that AR all along though. When I first got it home I had to oil it up and always had to help get it going by spinning the platter by hand before turning the switch on but I have been listening to music on that all along. TLS Guy sent me out a stronger motor and new belt that I recently installed as a bit of a rebuild. I am storing the the old motor and old belt inside the turntable itself like a hide-a-key on a car ... just in case. You know what ... here check this out for album art. :)

That's the sleeve to The Doobie Brothers' Minute By Minute from 1978. Today I got 5 CD's and 17 LP's for $25. This is 7 of those LP's. I wanted it because it was performed by the London Symphony Orchestra and it is pristine. I have a few other renditions and wanted to see how these guys compared. Somebody brought a really nice record collection to the Goodwill Store. In the 4th movement of the 9th Symphony there is a male vocal part. Average Joe has a quote in his signature about opera is when a guy gets stabbed instead of screaming he sings. Well one rendition I have of that 4th movement the guy needs some more stabbing cause I don't feel like he's giving it his all. I can't wait to see if the guy in this rendition is being stabbed properly.

I had to tear myself away from the Goodwill Store because I was out of time ...
... and I didn't want any more pristine albums.

I recently ordered new records from musicdirect.com. Shipping to the Netherlands was a little bit expensive but they seem to have a very nice assortment indeed! I think I'll most certainly order from them again.

Amazing they are stopping just now. I bet it's the same for VCR's? Having a (too) long breath, I mean. Phasing out the VCR will probably take another decade, wouldn't it?

No I haven't. But I don't see that the device has a powerful vacuum. A wet cleaner without a powerful vacuum will do more harm than good.
