Very LOUD speakers?

Hi All,
I'm looking for some new speakers for music only . I have a separate system for HT.
I have the HK 3485 receiver. I was recommended the JBL L890's. I haven't yet been able to hear them, I have to drive a bit to the nearest store that carries JBL. I saw them online for a better price.
I just want speakers that will shake the house like the old school giants. I'll get a bigger sub for the music system if needed.
Anyway just looking for some opinions on these JBL's or others that will do the job.
I may sound like a teenager but I need to listen to music very loud....very, very loud:eek:
And being I'm female I get much different treatment in the stores. They look at me like easy prey to sell overpriced crap to. If my husband is w/ me they try to talk to him...and he couldn't care any less.
Because of where I live I have to drive some distance for decent stuff and then to get "those looks"...It's so annoying. That's why I come here for info and to learn.
Some of us do like this stuff too. I would much rather have a house shaking system than another piece of something shiny and gold. He plays around w/old cars, I play around w/ the audio.
So, anyway.....I just want some really good, really loud, reasonably priced speakers for music where I'm not looking to upgrade....again.......after a short time. As far as budget I really don't know. The less money the better of course. I guess around $1500 or so?
Any suggestions are mucho appreciated ;)
Oh...the music is a bit of everything but mostly classic rock.
Take care, Teresa

.......Oh sweet Jesus.....4ft tall...106lbs...2 15" woofers....."they will nail you to the wall with their power"......and a great price.....I'm in love :D

I haven't thought about CV's in years..................I need to check these eye-poppers out. Have no idea where they'd fit and my husband might look into having my head examined but I don't care :p

Many thanks for your reply ;)

Take care
Teresa

Here's an online review of the 890's:

The Studio L Series by JBL stands at the pinnacle of their speaker line. Haven't heard them for myself, but I'm sure you can't go wrong. Audition them if you get the chance.

If you like it loud consider the Klipsch refence speakers. at 98db it's about as loud as it gets.

I have the CERWIN VEGA VE-12's, 3 way, 12inch driver, 5 1/4 inch mid, 1 1/4 inch tweeter, 300 watts. They are VERY loud and sound good to. They make my garage which is about 10 metres from the house vibrate!! I love it loud too, listen to the eagles, system of a down, all sorts of rock. i have them combined with a cerwin vega sub and surrounds for movies and it rocks. :D

Both Klipsch and Cerwin Vega would be well to the bottom of my accurate loudspeaker list. Both are high on my unpleasant shouty speaker list.

Thank you for all the replies. I have to find some dealers to go and listen. Unfortunately it's always a trip down to Tampa to do so. That's what you give up to live without too much traffic I suppose.

As far as the hearing goes I guess I'm pretty lucky . I hear almost too well, if that's possible. I hear EVERYTHING, to the point it drives me nuts sometimes.
I can't stand loud anything, except for music. And Daytona :D I constantly ask my husband to turn the TV down, I have to get wireless headphones for him, it's that bad ( and no, he's not half deaf due to my music, LOL, I only play it loud alone) he can't understand how I can listen to the TV at my low levels but need my music blasting.
I'm never close to the speakers when playing and hate headphones. I just like the house filled with music and feeling it too. Sounds better and I get things done faster.
Maybe that's my need for loud music....it blocks out other annoying noises for me :D

The JBLs would be far more accurate, and much nicer to look at IMO.

If loudness is your thing the JBLs and CV would both get the job done, but the CVs would definitely do loud a bit better. If you aren't in the same room as the speakers it won't really matter.

if all you want in a speaker is to put out very high volumes Cerwin-Vega! is your best choice.

I currently call Tampa home, and yes the traffic is nothing short of horrible. The good thing is you have 10 major sound/theater shops within 20 minutes of each other. Plan a 1/2 day trip and hit Sensuous Sounds, Audio Vision South, and Sounds Terrefic. Audio Vison South is one of the best looking stores in the country! I ended up buying from Sensuous Sounds...Check them all out!

Sensuous sounds? And just what might they be selling?:D

TLS: The original poster stated that she wanted loud rock n'roll. This is Klipsch all over. I certainly would not want to listen to French Horns on them or any kind of serious piano solos but they would fit the intended use well.

Hello Teresa. Well just your description of what you like for volume gives me a headache!

What will you be pushing these speakers with? What does the rest of your system consist of?

I would recommend getting at least better looking speakers that play very well. And to get the volume you want, just get a separate amplifier of at least 200wpc and then rock on.

The amp that is in my signature will do the job VERY WELL!!!:D

How do you like the sunfire amp did you compare it to other brands? I've heard several people who absolutely love them, and then there's a small faction I've heard complain about the bass. I always liked Carver, how does the amp sound in HT apps?
