Babalu as in Filipino?
Hi Mike C,

No, Babalu as in Desi Arnaz. It's one of my dog's names :)
I had an "Aunt & Uncle" and several priest's from our parish who were close friends of my parents that were Filipino. They would have huge BBQ's & parties when I was little and some of the things they would BBQ would make my eye-balls pop  But it tasted great! It wasn't until I was older that I started to realize I wasn't eating exactly what my mother said I was. But I'm glad she never told me or I wouldn't have ever tried a lot of the things I like today ;)

Thank you Codexp3 for the Tampa stores, I really appreciate it ;)
Yes, I'll have to make a day trip of it. I haven't been back down to Ybor in awhile anyway, I like the vintage clothes stores they have in that area. And The Columbia restaurant.

Hi Cathy,
Yes I do love listening to music very loud at times, I just like the sound and feel of the whole house rocking. I think it helps keep my mind from jumping around to the next thing before I've finished the last. I'll have 20 projects going at once if left unchecked. I love remodeling, re-finishing, just fixing things. And with my husband only having the use of one arm/hand due to a motorcycle accident, I do most of the house stuff myself. But I love doing it.
I have the HK 3485 2.1 receiver for music.
When listening at normal levels I'll use my HT Denon and Polks , which sound fantastic, but they just don't have that "frat house" huge house filling feeling you get from the old school type speakers.
I've never had an amp, but I think it's time. I also want a separate bigger sub for the music. I have some cheap speakers for use in the garage and to use on the lanai when working out in the yard. But I just want to get a really good pair for the house, I can move them to the sliding doors when outside, retire the DCM's to the garage w/ the older HK AVR for when I'm working in there . In Florida we have precious little storage space & I have way too much older stuff that I keep "just in case", but it's time to go.
I don't know anything about amps. Our first house was small and I never needed an amp or sub.
I bought a couple books to understand this stuff better, and of course this forum is fantastic. I love good loud sound but I want to learn the how's and why's.
I only got into HT surround a few yrs ago, it sounds great, but it's completely different than what I like for music, which is why I bought the HK 3485.
Well, enough rambling, thank you all so much for the suggestions.
This is one of the nicest audio forums I've found ( some give the feeling of "guys only") and I really appreciate all the help.
Take care, Teresa

I absolutely love it! I have had at one time or another a 50wpc Rotel amp, a 205wpc Parasound amp that now resides at my brothers house, and a 200wpc Outlaw monoblock amp.

It wasn't until I stepped up to 200wpc that I realized what my 18 year old Polks are capable of.

The amp doesn't have a sound to me since I'm paying attention to the music & movies, all it does is amplify the sound coming out of the speakers. The speakers go as loud as I want them to go & can go MUCH louder then I will ever be able to stand without strain either to them or to the amp. But the biggest improvement was the additional clarity I got across the board that I now hear out of my speakers & better controlled bass.

The amp runs nice & cool and powers my speakers so that they are being fully utilized & I'm enjoying that most important benefit.

How do you like the sunfire amp did you compare it to other brands? I've heard several people who absolutely love them, and then there's a small faction I've heard complain about the bass. I always liked Carver, how does the amp sound in HT apps?

Once you start auditioning speakers from audio stores, you may find that you want detailed and loud. I used to have loud pa speakers but there were giant regions of frequencies that I couldn't hear, once I got my M80s the rest of the band instruments were apparent and I still am able to rock the house when I want to.
