Not that it matters, but if te HGS is the DD w/o the multi EQ, why does the DD extend to a lower freq.?

DD extend to a lower freq

According to a Velodyne representative, the
HGS-15X specs are going to be updated to
reflect 15 Hz instead of the current 18 Hz.

He said the current spec sheet hasn't been
updated to reflect the new driver update
( the new drive being the HGS-15X ).

in the above post I meant the new driver
being the same one in the DD-15

That makes sense. I need the built in EQ and room correction functions b/c it is only going o be used in a 2 channel system, but I'm hoping that the I like the DD15 as much as everybody seems to like their HGS.

Does the HGS-15X require a single ended or Y ended sub-woofer cable?

Does anyone know if the HGS-15X require a single ended or Y ended sub-woofer cable?

I found the answer to my question above on the
second page of your review. I already have a
excellent six foot subwooofer cable with the Y
already built in...

I just purchased the Velodyne HGS-15X based on
Please feel free PM or E-mail me with any set up questions.

At this time I am not sure if the new Denon 4806 shipping will have Audyssey room correction for the lower frequency's The 4806 is sofware upgradable
This may be addressed in future software upgrades

Fwiw, I read on another forum the DD series of Velodyne subs requires the use of a ‘straight’ RS232 serial cable for s/w upgrades. The more common RS232 ‘null modem’ cable has pins 2 and 3 crossed and will not work. Might want to keep that in mind for future reference.

Edit: current s/w version is 2.0. Installing it wipes out your previous settings as it restructures memory. You might want to check your s/w version and upgrade to 2.0 if necessary before doing the install.

Thanks RLA,

Might be a reason to upgrade to the 5805 instead...

But I am about nine months off since I am waiting for the
receivers to be updated with Dolby Digital + and DTS-HD
sound formats.

Thanks again,

Tony

Don't hold your breath, manufacturers are still months away from knowing processor/firmware requirements of these formats. Then you likely have 6-9mo of product development phase and another year or so for software.

But if you wait just an additional 2 years, another format will come out that will blow everything else away! Why not just wait for holodecks :) You get the point I am sure. Too bad we can't lease the gear huh?

Actually Dolby Digital and DTS have done nothing to increase
the quality of 5.1 sound tracks for years ( except add a couple
of channels in the last few years ). Personally, I
have a 6.1 setup but 5.1 would suit me just fine.

Both of these new formats claim loseless compression. I already
have a Denon AVR-4802 and can't justify upgrade simply
for the MultEQ ( especially since there appears to be some
issues ). But loseless compression even on 5.1 channels
should be vastly improved over the existing formats.

Installed my new HGS-15X

Sounds awesome. I have yet to hear a musically accurate
sub that still thumps when it needs to.

I had to turn it down to one quarter notch on the volume
control for fear of it cracking one of my windows!

Thanks for the great review!

This is exactly where my gain was set for the review and I thought for sure my single Payne widows were history when I put on The Haunting. There are many great subwoofers on the market but the HGS-15X is a true audiophile subwoofer with Slam ;)

Agreed, you just condensed my review to one sentence ;)

Im pretty sure they told me they could make any configuration I wanted when I got mine from them. I really like the connections much better than the standard type rca. I purchased some y's at rad shack since I had to turn my single lfe output into 2 I already had some y's around. Replaced my M*@#$er cables with blue jeans. +
