Do you really think he would go to a protest against the outcome of this trial and expect to not be squished like a grape?
Do I even have details from a picture? No, all I see is a clown blaring through a microphone dressed like a wannabe superhero. ;)

I can visualize him being chased by the angry mob, falling every 20-30 feet with a loud "Oof!", clumsily getting back on his feet and repeating. If he can, it would be funny to see him do that one-legged hop/dragging his other foot as he goes around corners like Curly, from the Three Stooges.

You need to say specifically what things they're doing wrong.
Summer vacation should be eliminated. A two week vacation in December is completely unnecessary. Weeklong breaks should coincide with grading periods, which is to say breaks should be used for grading and preparation of next semester's instructional material. Essentially school should be year round.

School start times must change to suit the biological sleep cycle of the students they serve. School must revolve around students not teachers or sports or the sleep cycle of adults.

Move to the European club model of sports rather than school sponsored sports. At the very least, sports which routinely cause serious head injuries, football and soccer, must not be allowed in an institution that purports to be concerned with the intellectual development of young people.

Make it mandatory that high schools provide shop classes.

Make it mandatory that high schools provide computer programming courses.

Make it mandatory that all pre-k, K, and grade schools must provide second language education as well as English acquisition classes for students whose parents do not speak English.

Provide a healthy breakfast and lunch for ALL students. Meals must be based on the glycemic index in order to give students the best performance possible.

Provide a pay differential for teachers, which is to say that math or computer science teachers should be paid more.

Students that make trouble in the classroom must be sequestered away from students that do not.

Mainstreaming students with special needs without sufficient support staff harms the bulk of students. Schools must hire more counselors, 504 and IEP specialists and speech language pathologists to support the needs of today's students.

Outlaw online education, as it harms underprivileged students the most.

And that's just coming off the top of my head. If the the above policies were followed, I'm confident our education system would see great gains, and our nation would benefit.

What about Teacher's Conventions? That's what they seemed to live for, when I was a kid.

In communist China maybe where kids aren't allowed to be kids. They need a break. Three months? I dunno, but c'mon man. If you want your kid to be a droid. Xmas vacation for sure.

What would you call kids who keep their noses buried in their games, phones and tables, not knowing how to hold a conversation- "fully functioning members of society"?

Attending school does reduce some of that.

Only if the school teaches the kids that there's something other than a a virtual world and gets them interested in the real world & people. This, of course, assumes the parents have some pull in the lives of their kids which doesn't seem likely in too many cases.

I can't help noticing that the main reason kids go into schools and start blasting is because they were bullied. This could be stopped relatively easily- parents need to teach their kids that bullies usually have little self-esteem and the easy way to raise it is to make someone else feel bad. It happened to me during freshman year of high school and as soon as I stood up to the guy, it ended. If it had resorted to a fight, he would have kicked my ass but I was sick of him and his idiot friend. The first one died at 46 of a heart attack and the second is in prison for murder.

I also think more parents need to accept the fact that their observation skills suck. They need to get to know their kids and if they think a bit of mental toughness is lacking (maybe totally lacking), they need to find a solution.

I think kids who have been identified as bullied will often be considered 'overly-sensitive'. I know people who have had kids like that and Karate or Judo lessons helped, a lot. Their self-esteem grew and they came out of their shell. Another way to fix this is to teach these kids to fight like hockey players- the 'tough guys' don't want to get their asses kicked anymore than the victims and nobody wants to fight someone who seems to not care about the outcome of the fight, other than winning.

However, these kids can also be socially awkward, sullen and the target of bullies because their a$$hole parents abuse them in some way, possibly by beating them for every little thing. I recently found out that a friend of mine was hit with a belt, usually the end with the buckle. I don't remember seeing welts, scabs or scars on him, but he told me about this when we talked recently and it pissed me off. Never knew it. Turns out, he was bullied by some of the guys we had been friends with and that coincided with some of those guys starting to hang out with the 'greasers'. If I had known, I would have done something about it. I had heard about others when I was in school- in one case, the older brother of a friend was used as a punching bag by their dad- they would fight with closed fists. That's not 'being a parent', that should have resulted in the dad being arrested and jailed.

Bill Gates- a real prince.

Billy Gardell is a comedian who has a recorded stand up show on YouTube & some other services- he talks about people being totally fascinated by their phones, the apps and how this has taken control of peoples' lives. I think he's acting like and old guy- made a comment about reaching 40 and not being in a stranglehold by technology. Geez- if he felt that way at 40, I want to see how he feels at my age. Anyway, he talks about this and looks at the audience, then says "I want people do put their phones down for two hours a day. Just two hours, so they can 'LEARN TO HOLD A CONVERSATION! Learn to work on an engine- nobody ever got laid in the back seat of an iPhone".

I have to wonder how many people walk into cars, buildings, etc because they don't know what's in front of them. I see faces glued to phones everywhere and it makes me wonder if they actually know where they are.

Obviously, it failed, but my point is it was largely Republican fault. Wake up yourself troll.
No, your post (#6) said it was '100% Republican fault'. So perhaps , even as a leftie, you could admit 'some' blame on the Dems ?

Weird that you think parents don't have "pull" in their kids lives but are leaning on the schools to do it for them then I assume complain because schools would be overreaching, parenting. I just think I sucked in high school and slept in my own saliva and was more worried about the next party. Why homo sapiens cannot accept their own responsibility is beyond me??? It's ultimately the parents' job to be invested in their children's future. If they don't, or we suck in testing, well that's on us. It isn't the schools "job" to get you better results. It's their job to provide you with the "tools" to. That doesn't mean it will work out. That's where the parents come in, friends, etc. I tend towards America doesn't have the discipline other more successful countries have. Having said that, I don't want a regimented military serving as the board of directors upon our school system either. That isn't what America's about.

I think where I was wrong in saying it isn't the teacher's job to get better results. It is, and it's the parents job to be involved as well.

Where did you get the idea that I think schools would be overreaching? SOMEONE has to do it and schools used to, but parents didn't like their kids being made to feel sad by being disciplined, so it was stopped.

I agree with the rest of your post. Strict discipline is needed but from personal experience, I don't think parochial schools are the best choice. Some of the worst kids I knew, and I mentioned two of them in a recent post (one had bullied me & others and the other is in prison for murder) went to parochial school and they were complete a$$holes. The girls tended to be in 180° opposition to the virtuous little flowers they were taught to be, too.

What do you mean, "as well"? They decided to have kids, it's THEIR job to make the little dears into useful members of society- it's the job of the schools to make them smarter.

It's the parents job to be involved in their life, including school. If that isn't there as a starting point it's difficult to see a whole lot of achievement at school.
