Upgrading speaker cable for Bose Lifestyle V20 theater system?

Hey all,

Not sure if this is the appropriate area to post this questions but here goes.

My wife and I got a Bose Lifestyle v20 home theater system for Christmas and i'm wondering if it would be worth it to upgrade the speaker cabling for it.

One of the main reasons to consider doing this (aside from a possible increase in performance) is I'm not planning to run the speaker cabling inside the walls, i'm going to leave it exposed running along the sides of the theater room etc. So having a real decent cable would improve the appearance of exposed cabling significantly in my eyes compared to the cheapish looking stock wiring running on the ground.

Can anyone offer some input/advice/experience regarding this? Possibly recommending some cabling as well. Budget wise i'm not too worried about spending a decent amount of money on high performance wiring so don't hesitate to recommend something top quality.

Thanks,

Jer
What BOSE has (yoked together), is factory matched for that system. I'd find other ways to hide the wire. I thought Bose systems were INVISIBLE? Just kidding. Run fake-like base board or something to make it look right. Or Throw Rugs on the floor. I'm sorry, I can't be of more help.

^ Missed sarcasm BMX..hence the little smiley at the end of my statement ;)
I thought it might have been sarcasm, but it needs to be made clear that while Bose is a perfectly capable $200 system, it is not fair to consumers at the price they charge.

Thanks man - this place is like a drug. You can break yourself of the habit for a period of time, but one little taste and you're completely off the wagon again. Oh well, at least it's not heroin. ;)

Stratman ever come back or is he still MIA?

Oh, sorry - don't mean to hijack the thread. See, been gone so long I've even forgotten basic forum etiquette. Oops. :D

Personally I don't really understand the Bose bashing. I've had a good listen in the Bose shop in Vancouver whilst on holidays recently and was pleasantly surprised with the 'sound quality'. I've always wondered how many of the Bose bashers actually have had a good listen to a properly setup Bose system.

Bose products are designed for a specific market - plug and play convenience and maximal WAF. Sure you pay a premium for it, and sure you don't have many upgrade options, but seriously unless you are an AV enthusiast, a nicely setup Bose system is probably all the 'sound quality' that most people would ever need. They DO sound better than most TV's and that is what MOST people are used to. Sure for the same price as their upper end systems (the $3k or so mark) you could design a much better sounding system, but you do lose the WAF by physically occupying a lot more space.

Personally I don't own any Bose products apart from their QC2 headphones which I find to make plane flights much more enjoyable. After auditioning them in Vancouver, I also don't mind their Companion 5 computer speakers but ended up buying the Razor Mako's instead as at the time, the USB connection wasn't fully working with Mac Pro's for whatever reason.

Just my 2 cents on this anyway.

This is the best true assessment of Bose. It is overpriced for what you get.

Yeah Adam, I was going to ask you about that picture...is that the skull of some neighborhood kid he's chewing on?
:D First, let me say that it's great to see you back on here!

She was finishing up a rare treat for her in that picture. For the second time ever, I let her bring home a rabbit that she found on our walk. This one was about a block away and seemed to have been very recently hit by a car. I normally don't let her get near them, but she was just so darn excited (and, I think, proud). She trotted very quickly back home with it, and she got to enjoy it in the back yard.

A very simple, slightly more expensive, solution is to wrap your current speaker cables with a new cover. You can find them here.

If you have a large room the v20 will never "fill the room" in sound and you'll overwork the system. Just food for thought. Bose is a master marketing machine. To expand on a Bose quote: "Our innovative design enables big, spacious sound from compact speakers...in a compact room."

Although it is much more fun to "Bose Bash"... this comment really addresses the OP's question. It is well thought out and friendly!!! Kudos!;)

It's hard to resist Bose bashing because it's so much fun...besides, they deserve it. Just don't make the poster feel like an idiot for not knowing any better. Hate the sin, not the sinner. :D

Thanks Adam. It's like Halon says, this site is like a drug. Audioholism can be sad and ugly...leading to marital strife and financial ruin. Yet we keep coming back like moths to a flame.:p

Lol, looks like my 'Pro Bose' comments have garnered me some negative rep points with someone (I don't know how to check who) writing "what an idiot response Bose sucks" under the rep comments section.

I can see that people have to be conformist according to the comment maker and are not entitled to personal opinions. As I said, personally I do not own any Bose HT/Music systems, as I am after that additional bit of performance which does make for severely diminishing returns. However I do also recognise that not everyone is after that. Some people really do just want plug and play convenience in a compact package and money is really quite secondary to that whole point. Obviously there is a market for that or else Bose would have gone out of business a long time ago. Now if I was living in a small apartment where space and WAF was paramount, I possibly might be forced into considering Bose but thankfully I don't have those restrictions.
