Upgrading my sub for a 24X18 room

Hi all.

I have a bi-level home, and I'v moved my AV equipment to the upstairs to where the room is alot larger to where i had it before. It's a living room kitchen combo 24x18X24 - 20 ft cathedral ceilings??? and an open staircase

I currently have 2 BIC F 12's paired with Polk M 70s, 40s and a Cs10 running on a Yamaha RX 700.

Are the BICS sufficient enough for this space? or what can I upgrade for about $500-1K???

If they aren't, then how do you feel about building diy subs from kits?

+1, kits. You need to stretch your budget as far as you can in a room that large. Try this: 2 x Dayton 18" HO drivers and knockdown boxes and a Behringer EPQ2000 or EPX4000 to power them both. That all together is $1k. You will want to buy a few more things like paint, glue, and feet, but that won't be too expensive. For the price, that setup can not be approached in performance by any commercial subwoofer

If the space really is 24x18x24 then you're looking at over 10,000 ft^3, which means those F12's will be completely neutered I'm afraid. To get even a reasonable amount of bass in an area that large would require several very powerful subwoofers. If your budget is tight you might get decent performance from 4 Dayton SUB-1500's, but if HT is your goal you'll realistically need to look at options like the Orbit Shifter or Captivator 2400. PowerSound Audio's XV30F might work as well.
