Underbed Sub suggestion's??

I am currently expanding a system in a guest bedroom. I would like to incorporate an "under the bed" subwoofer. As most rookie's, I don't want to spend a bunch of money because this room hardly ever gets used. I have heard great things about the Dayton SUB120. I like the 12" subs, as the room is fairly large. However the Dayton and similar inexpensive models are waaaaaay too large to fit under the bed. Does anyone have any suggestions for an inexpensive, under-the-bed design sub with plenty of power?? Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks.

What exactly are you trying to accomplish? Tactile response on the bed itself, or just a way to hide a subwoofer?

I know MTX makes an "under the bed/couch" subwoofer, but it only hits like 45Hz, so its not really a subwoofer.

If you need something that hits hard, and is slim, go DIY.

if you DIY, you could possibly use a sub enclosure they use for trucks, as they are usually pretty slim. I have no idea if that would work, but it just popped into my head so I thought I would spit it out there!

My main goal is to hide the sub completely. I want guests to enjoy the audio experience without having to "see" it. I like the idea of a DIY, possibly dual 12's w/1000 watts(looking for 20hz lows) but I thought I would try to find one first. For instance in my family room, everyone can "see" the HD Mitsu, the VSX-52tx Elite, and the Klipsch Reference In-walls along with the RSW-12. However in the bedroom, I want guests to simply "feel" the music as opposed to knowing where it is coming from. Can or would anyone suggest a "tube" style sub?? (similar to the bazooka tubes found in cars.) If so can you give me some links as to where I might find a decent one, possibly some suggestions.....Thanks to all, daddyg007

If you went the DIY route, you could build a large, flat enclosure with your choice of driver. I'd personally opt for a Peerless 12" XLS driver, number 830548. It has a 4-ohm nominal impedance and has an Fs of 10.4Hz (!!). Here's the info page:

I'm not sure what a good source is for it. You can also get the Peerless 830500, a 12" driver with a higher Fs of 18.9Hz from Madisound or Parts Express.

However, I think you could do well if you opted for a small subwoofer behind a cabinet in a corner like the Hus STF-1 or STF-2 in combination with some bass shakers installed under the bed. You can get bass Shakers from Parts Express, part numbers 299-027 and 299-028. The bass shakers will need their own low-power amplifier, but basically any inexpensive amp will do just fine (assuming you wire them in a way that doesn't have ridiculously low impedance).

SVS makes cylindrical subs. Maybe those could work. You could always use a bazooka tube. Power it with a 12V AC/DC adapter. Just a thought.

However, depending on where the bed is and where the listener is, you may go through a lot of trouble for mediocre sound.

do you personally have any suggestions on a good in-wall sub? This could be an option.......wiring in this room is pretty forgiving for upgrades.

that depends on the budget. in-walls tend to cost a little more due to the engineering. For instance, definitive tech's IWSub 10/10...which you'll need an external amp for.

or the PSB CWS8

Both run around $699 plus amp. A quick search on Google for "In-wall sub" yeilded quite a few results.
