I settled for the Pioneer DV-578, I wanted the 588 but they were sold out. Its got great video, didn't have to adjust anything, skin tones were right on, and the sound is good too.

I put a DVD audio disk in and it didn't sound right, so I will have to read up on this, I'm only using a coax audio out, but I thought I read some place that it needs analog connections for playing DVD audio.
For High Resolution sound with DVD-A (same requirement for SACD), you need to connect your DVD player with the 6 analog outputs to your receiver 6 analog inputs. RCA cables will do.

What you are getting now with your DVD-A (assuming you have a digital connection) is DD 5.1 or DTS surround or PCM Stereo. Not high resolution.

More Cables?

I only have one DVD-A disk so it might not be worth hooking that up right now.

I mostly bought it for watching DVD movies and the occasional music CD.

I've been reading the manual and it does look like things need to be changed in the audio setup to listen to DVD-A, so I will have to setup a few shortcuts in my harmony remote.

Should you install the 6 analog cables, when you command your receiver to passthrough the 6 analog channels, the player will be doing the decoding (DD or DTS) and not the receiver. In addition, the speaker setup in the DVD player will be the one used (distance and speaker level per speaker plus bass management).

If you have 6 RCA type cables, I recommend that you try it. CDs don't sound the same with analogs... considerable loss is encountered with digital for CDs.

Thanks for the great advice, I'm going to give this a try, I have a lot of extra high quality cables laying around. :D

I checked my Yammy book and I see where to hook it up, so I can't wait till the weekend.
