Hi guys,
I need some help here, I've got a Velodyne sub EQ Max12 which I pair up with my B&W 803D. My system is as follow :
My 803D runs from My Denon AVR-3805 pre-amp out which then goes to MC452. My sub comes from the pre-amp out directly. My room is 6x5m. Thank's guys for all the helps.

No one could possibly help without more information. What do you mean by "un-natural bass reproduction"? Are you running any sort of bass management? Where do you have the low-pass filter set? Where is the sub positioned in your room? How did you determine that position?

By the way, 6mx5m is a rather large room for a single EQ-Max 12.

Hi Irvrobinson,
Thank's for the reply (it sounded to be boomy and not clean). I've placed it beside my front speakers which makes it roughly 1m away from the front wall and 0.5m from the side wall. Sorry but what do you mean by bass management? I've set the fc to be at max and volume of the sub to be 50 (don't know whether this helps). I've set the x-over frequency to be 40Hz from the AVR and had the speaker to be set into 'large'.

You should set the speakers to "small." Right now, bass below 40Hz is being reproduced by both the speakers and the subwoofer. Since the -3dB point for your speakers is 35Hz, you are probably getting a hump in the frequency response from them both reproducing bass from around 35-40Hz (and beyond a bit, as crossover slopes are not usually infinitely steep). My guess is that 50 or 60 Hz might be better for the crossover frequency, but experimentation will settle that issue. For setting the levels, you should use the auto setup feature of your receiver; see the manual:

Owners Manual(7.65 MB)

If you have the subwoofer level set too high, it will sound "boomy."

kurn:

I have twin 10" Velodyne subs in my modest HT. These models just preceded the EQ series so are similar. When I first set the subs' amps to Volume at 4 out of 10, Audyssey's saw them as too high as its level was seen at -12 - which is off the clock too much for the room. I turned down the subs by half increments for subsequent runs of Audyssey until the Subs' Volume Levels ended up being at 2 out of 10, or about half of my original estimate. This put their level as seen by Audyssey at about -4 Db that is closer to Audyssey's ideal 0 Db.

Again, set your L & R to 'Small', AVR Xover at 80 Hz & the Sub's Xover to Full (on the sub's back panel).

It is easy to overdo it with the sub's volume that often results in boomy sound. In difficult boomy cases, room interaction might be contributing to the condition requiring a physical position change. Thankfully I didn't have to wrestle mine around the room

Mine sound great now & will make my room generate annoying sounds in the walls (metal gas fireplace & furnace ducting inside the walls) down to 20 Hz.

Hope this helps...

Thank's guys. It's all well now. Cross over frequency was the issue. I really appreciate all that has helped.
